{"id":817005,"date":"2026-03-10T16:48:21","date_gmt":"2026-03-10T16:48:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/817005\/"},"modified":"2026-03-10T16:48:21","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T16:48:21","slug":"ockenden-to-chair-leeds-maternity-inquiry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/817005\/","title":{"rendered":"Ockenden to chair Leeds maternity inquiry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            BREAKING NEWS: Ockenden to chair Leeds maternity inquiry <\/p>\n<p>                  By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare-management.uk\/author\/52f1cb0b-4d2b-4d19-a941-3c383905349f\/lee-peart\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lee Peart<\/a>  <\/p>\n<p>                    10 March 2026<\/p>\n<p class=\"strapline\">Health and social care secretary Wes Streeting has appointed Donna Ockenden as the chair of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals maternity inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>                    <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Donna Ockenden (c) Donna Ockenden \" title=\"Donna Ockenden (c) Donna Ockenden \" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Donna-Ockdenden-edited-version-1-840x495.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Donna Ockenden (c) Donna Ockenden <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Ockenden, who has led an inquiry into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare-management.uk\/search\/page\/2?per_page=10&amp;facet=true&amp;sort=recent&amp;query=Ockenden\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust<\/a> and is due to report on her inquiry into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare-management.uk\/delay-publication-ockenden-maternity-review-findings\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nottingham University Hospitals Trust<\/a>, said: \u2018It is an honour to have been asked to chair this review, and I feel a profound sense of responsibility to the parents, babies and healthcare professionals it concerns to ensure that we get this right. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2018This review must remain firmly focused on the families who, in many instances, have waited far too long for answers to questions about their care. My priority will be to listen carefully to families and staff, to understand what has gone wrong, and to ensure that the lessons are learned and the changes required are made, in a timely way, thus ensuring that all mothers, their babies and families receive safe, high-quality perinatal care.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Brendan Brown, chief executive of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said: \u2018I am deeply sorry to families whose babies have sadly died or who have been harmed when receiving care in our hospitals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u2018We welcome the announcement that a chair has been appointed to lead the independent review, and we are absolutely committed to working openly, honestly and transparently with Donna Ockenden and the review team, and with families who have used our services.
