{"id":818037,"date":"2026-03-11T03:37:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-11T03:37:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/818037\/"},"modified":"2026-03-11T03:37:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T03:37:11","slug":"europes-plan-to-keep-ukraine-afloat-even-if-hungary-keeps-blocking-e90b-loan-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/818037\/","title":{"rendered":"Europe\u2019s plan to keep Ukraine afloat \u2014\u00a0even if Hungary keeps blocking \u20ac90B loan \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ukraine has money until May<\/p>\n<p>Kyiv&#8217;s funding needs have eased <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/imf-approves-8b-loan-ukraine-eu-clash-hungary\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">after the International Monetary Fund approved<\/a> an $8.1 billion loan late last month, disbursing $1.5 billion straight away. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/ukraine-has-enough-money-to-last-until-may\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/ukraine-has-enough-money-to-last-until-may\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The country should have enough money to stay solvent until early May<\/a>, four people familiar with Kyiv\u2019s finances told POLITICO.<\/p>\n<p>Previous EU estimates had indicated Kyiv would go broke at the end of March, putting it at a major disadvantage against Russian forces and amid ongoing U.S.-led peace talks, and therefore increasing the urgency of the \u20ac90 billion EU lifeline.<\/p>\n<p>The loan seemed locked in until late January, when a Russian drone attack damaged the Druzhba pipeline, which transports Russian oil across Ukraine to Hungary and Slovakia. Budapest and Bratislava are exempt from EU sanctions on Russian oil.<\/p>\n<p>Orb\u00e1n accused Ukraine of intentionally delaying repairs to the pipeline for political reasons, and reneged on the commitment he made at the December summit to wave the Ukraine loan through. The Hungarian leader also blocked the EU&#8217;s 20th sanctions package against Russia, which requires unanimous support from all 27 leaders to pass.<\/p>\n<p>Orb\u00e1n, who faces a crucial national election on April 12, has been campaigning on an anti-Ukraine platform.
