Petrol prices in Northern Ireland have been rising amid fears that the Iran war will lead to a spike in fuel costs.<\/p>\n

The cost of crude oil rose to over $100 a barrel on Monday as the US and Israeli bombardment of Iran <\/a>continued to spook global markets.<\/p>\n

The average price of petrol on UK forecourts reached 137p – an increase of nearly 6p a litre since the Middle East conflict <\/a>began 10 days ago.<\/p>\n

But experts have warned that UK motorists can expect further price increases<\/a> if the price of crude oil stays high.<\/p>\n

The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit said the historic link between oil and fuel prices shows oil trading at 100 dollars a barrel for a prolonged period means petrol prices could hit about 150p per litre, while oil hitting 120 dollars a barrel would result in UK petrol prices of about 170p per litre.<\/p>\n

Across the UK, prices at the pumps vary considerably depending on where you are filling up your car. In Northern Ireland<\/a>, prices are significantly lower than the national average, with the average cost across forecourts in Belfast<\/a> nearly 10p a litre lower at 125.8p for standard unleaded.<\/p>\n

The most expensive areas to fill up are North Warwickshire, Maidstone, Breckland and Brentwood, where average prices are all over 141p per litre of petrol. However, in each of these local authorities there are cheaper filling stations where prices are closer to the national average.<\/p>\n

The cheapest place in the UK to fill up your car with petrol is at a ASDA garage in Co Durham. According to the latest data supplied by retailers, a driver in an average family car could save up to \u00a324 by filling up at this forecourt, compared to the most expensive petrol station.<\/p>\n

The ASDA garage at South Church Road, Co Durham is charging motorists 127.7p per litre, which means it would cost \u00a370 to fill up an average 55 litre tank.<\/p>\n

    The most expensive filling station in the UK is an ASDA station on the M74 Southbound, South Lanarkshire. The cost of standard petrol at this station is 171.9p, meaning it would cost a total of \u00a395 to fill up an average family car at this forecourt.<\/p>\n

    Diesel prices have risen faster than prices for unleaded petrol, with an increase of around 9p a litre since the Iran war began on 28 February.<\/p>\n

    For the owners of diesel cars, the cheapest place to fill up is an ASDA garage in Kingswood, Hull. The cost of a litre of standard diesel at this forecourt was 134.9p, according to prices supplied by retailers.<\/p>\n
