Liverpool suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Galatasaray, and former player Phil Thompson now thinks his ex-side have been put at a disadvantage following a call from the referee in the 90th minute.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ibrahima Konate had a goal ruled out<\/a> by VAR earlier in the second half, with UEFA releasing a statement on the disallowed effort<\/a> on March 11.<\/p>\n

However, it was not Konate\u2019s effort that Thompson<\/a> was disappointed by, but instead the fact that Davinson Sanchez was shown a yellow card in the 90th minute and is now suspended for the next game.<\/p>\n

Liverpool<\/a> fans probably remember Sanchez from his time at Tottenham Hotspur, where he put in some questionable displays.<\/p>\n

He once again looked shaky in the first-leg tie on March 10, and Thompson is \u2018gutted\u2019 he won\u2019t feature at Anfield next week.<\/p>\n

Speaking to The Official Liverpool FC Podcast<\/a>, he said: \u201cI\u2019m disappointed, you know, Sanchez got booked late on, misses the game, I\u2019m gutted. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m gutted, he\u2019s a liability, Sanchez, as he proved at Spurs when he was there, he takes too many risks, he\u2019s a liability. I\u2019d rather have him on the pitch. I\u2019m just thinking, he\u2019s gonna miss the second leg, I\u2019d rather have him there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liverpool players at risk of Champions League ban<\/p>\n

As per UEFA\u2019s current rules, a player will be suspended if they pick up three yellow cards in the competition, as Sanchez has done.<\/p>\n

Those bookings do not reset until after the quarter-final stage, which means Liverpool could still lose players in the coming match weeks.<\/p>\n

However, only two Reds players are close to a one-game ban right now, with Conor Bradley, who is out for the remainder of the season anyway, one of them.<\/p>\n

The second is Curtis Jones, who hasn\u2019t been a consistent starter this term, but is one of the only options Slot currently has to cover Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch at the base of midfield.<\/p>\n
