Asking for a friend.<\/a>\u201d But a <a href=\"https:\/\/pitchfork.com\/news\/kacey-musgraves-reveals-new-album-and-song\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new album\u2019s on the way<\/a>, so Musgraves can\u2019t wait one more second to get it off her chest: \u201cY\u2019all,\u201d she sings on the hook, \u201cI\u2019m going through a dry spell.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cY\u2019all\u201d makes it clear that this isn\u2019t an attempt at seduction, nor, like the <a href=\"https:\/\/pitchfork.com\/reviews\/albums\/hilary-duff-luck-or-something\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new Hilary Duff<\/a> song \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Akkzj5p3a3E\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roommates<\/a>\u201d (another entry in the \u201cwomen in their late thirties can be horny, too\u201d canon), is it an attempt to rekindle intimacy with one partner in particular. No\u2014\u201cDry Spell\u201d is the admission you blurt out after a few mimosas with the girlfriends, when everyone\u2019s gushing about their wild weekends and you simply have no new tea to spill. It\u2019s a playful confession of boredom, unapologetic but ultimately bloodless\u2014the subjects of lust matter less than the fact that they don\u2019t exist, and because they don\u2019t exist, they don\u2019t inspire much, either. You can hear the girlfriends already: 335 days? But you\u2019re such a catch!
