<\/p>\nA number of Merseyside schools received threats, which are being treated as hoaxes by police, earlier this week<\/p>\n

Police are continuing their investigation into a number of “hoax threats” sent to Merseyside schools. Merseyside Police said on Monday, March 9 it was investigating a series of threats made to schools across the region.<\/p>\n
LIPA School in Liverpool city centre<\/a> warned parents to stay away after threats were made. In a letter to parents, shared with the ECHO<\/a>, LIPA school <\/a>said it had been forced to close for the day on Monday, March 9<\/a>, due to a threat to cause harm.<\/p>\n Chesterfield High School<\/a> in Crosby<\/a> also confirmed to parents that it implemented a “temporary lockdown procedure” in line with national policy. Writing to parents Chesterfield High<\/a> continued to say the school liaised with Merseyside Police, which said the communications were thought to be a hoax.<\/p>\n Merseyside Police<\/a> confirmed the threats were not believed to have been genuine and officers were investigating who sent the “malicious communications”.<\/p>\n The widely shared threats, emailed to a number of schools, have been signed off with the name of a Merseyside man<\/a>, who is now living overseas, who previously served time in prison for hacking and fraud offences<\/a>. There is currently no indication that the email has been sent by him.<\/p>\n A senior police officer also told the ECHO<\/a> that investigators had not received any information which suggested there was a requirement for schools to close.<\/p>\n Police outside LIPA School.(Image: Liverpool Echo)<\/p>\n In an update on Wednesday, March 11, Merseyside Police said enquiries into the hoax emails are ongoing.
