{"id":820444,"date":"2026-03-12T09:10:20","date_gmt":"2026-03-12T09:10:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/820444\/"},"modified":"2026-03-12T09:10:20","modified_gmt":"2026-03-12T09:10:20","slug":"unite-cut-labour-funding-by-580000-over-birmingham-bin-strikes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/820444\/","title":{"rendered":"Unite cut Labour funding by \u00a3580,000 over Birmingham bin strikes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-611891 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/megap-00-1.jpg\" alt=\"Unite\" width=\"860\" height=\"516\"  \/><br \/>\nUnite the Union has voted to cut its funding to the Labour Party by \u00a3580,000 over the government\u2019s handling of bin strikes in Birmingham.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00a3580,000 decrease amounts to a 40% cut from the union\u2019s previous funding level of \u00a31.45m.<\/p>\n<p>Unite described the cut as \u2018unprecedented\u2019 and said it plans to formally consult its members on whether they want to remain in the Labour Party.<\/p>\n<p>Unite general secretary Sharon Graham commented:\u00a0\u201cWorkers are scratching their heads asking whose side are Labour on, who do they really represent, because it certainly isn\u2019t workers. Workers and communities are paying the price.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cThe cut in affiliation fee shows the anger of Unite members.
