Primark has confirmed it will shut ALL stores across England for over 24 hours next month. Primark<\/a> has confirmed all stores across England, Wales and Northern Ireland will close.<\/p>\n

Primark will shut up shop for a day in line with the Sunday Trading Act 1994. Easter weekend will see the closure of nearly all of the brand\u2019s 190 clothing stores for 24 hours.<\/p>\n

All UK stores \u2013 except in Scotland \u2013 will close for a 24 hour period on Easter Sunday. A Primark spokesperson said: \u201cOn Easter Sunday only stores in Scotland will be open and all stores in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be closed.\u201c<\/p>\n

Primark stores will likely follow a 10pm closure rule on Saturday, followed by an 8am opening the following Monday.<\/p>\n

On Mondays to Saturdays, all shops in the UK (regardless of their size) are free to remain open for as long as they wish. The situation is different in respect to Sunday trading.<\/p>\n

Government documents state the Sunday Trading Act 1994 (the STA 1994) regulates Sunday shop opening hours in England and Wales.<\/p>\n

There are no equivalent restrictions to the STA 1994 in Scotland, but there are similar restrictions in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n

The Labour Party<\/a> government adds: “Currently, under the STA 1994, a distinction is made between large and small shops in respect of permissible trading hours.<\/p>\n

“For the purposes of the act, a shop is classified as being large if it is over 280 square metres or 3,000 square feet in size. On Sundays, large shops may open for no more than 6 continual hours between the period 10am and 6pm.<\/p>\n

“All large shops must close on Easter Sunday.”<\/p>\n

In contrast, there are no opening restrictions for small shops (under 280 square metres or 3,000 square feet), under the government guidelines and rules.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Primark has confirmed all stores across England, Wales and Northern Ireland will close.
