Police were carrying out a search on Thursday<\/p>\n
Edinburgh gang cops have recovered a gun after a huge emergency search on Thursday afternoon. Around 2pm on March 12, officers were carrying out a search near Niddrie Mains Road.<\/p>\n
A large police presence swarmed the area with locals concerned over the nature of the incident. Officers discovered a firearm and ammunition within a wooded area near the Jack Kane Centre.<\/p>\n
It is not yet clear if the weapon has been used as part of a crime but it is set to undergo stringent forensic analysis to establish any wider connections.<\/p>\n
Pictures from the scene show specialist dog handlers in attendance with some officers patrolling the Jack Kane Park and Hunter’s Hall Park area.<\/p>\n
Detective Chief Inspector George Calder said: “This recovery will be a significant blow to organised crime groups, I have no doubt this firearm would have been used in violence, which would have resulted in serious injury, or worse.<\/p>\n
“I hope this latest find helps to reassure the community of our continued resolve to target those involved in organised crime and demonstrates our commitment to dismantling these groups.<\/p>\n
“The public may not always see what we are doing but rest assured a significant level of work is ongoing to disrupt these criminal networks. We are never complacent when it comes to serious organised crime.<\/p>\n
“We continue to work closely with our colleagues in partner agencies and the public, sharing information, resources and intelligence in stamping out this illegal activity.<\/p>\n
