Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the appointment of Dr Maureen Umeakuewulu as the new Chief Medical Director of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Anambra State.\n<\/p>\n
According to a statement issued by the governor\u2019s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, on Friday, the appointment takes effect immediately.\n<\/p>\n
The statement read, \u201cThe Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the appointment of Dr Maureen Umeakuewulu as the new Chief Medical Director of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Anambra State.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cUmeakuewulu is a distinguished Nigerian physician and Senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a special focus on gynaecologic oncology and women\u2019s health at the National Hospital, Abuja.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe brings a wealth of clinical expertise and experience, having served at the National Hospital, Abuja, where she has made significant contributions to healthcare delivery in Nigeria. <\/p>\n
\u201cUmeakuewulu is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, and the International College of Surgeons.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
Umeakuewulu is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the National Hospital, Abuja, with a professional focus on women\u2019s reproductive health and gynaecologic oncology. She has been involved in research and public advocacy on cervical cancer prevention, human papillomavirus vaccination and other women-centred health issues.<\/p>\n
She has also played leadership roles within the Medical Women\u2019s Association of Nigeria, where she served as President of the Federal Capital Territory chapter, advocating increased awareness and access to screening and treatment for diseases affecting women, including breast and cervical cancer.\n<\/p>\n
Beyond hospital practice, Umeakuewulu has been active in community health interventions through initiatives such as the Dona-Maureen Foundation, which has organised medical outreach programmes providing free healthcare services to underserved communities in Anambra State.\n<\/p>\n
