This includes a double-bill of Shakespeare in the Crucible with two major new productions brought to the stage by a company of actors across both titles. The company will be joined by screen and stage stars Mathew Horne in\u00a0<strong>Twelfth Night\u00a0<\/strong>directed by Jamie Glover\u00a0(Measure for Measure), and Ian McDiarmid\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>King Lear<\/strong>\u00a0directed by Donmar\u00a0Warehouse Associate Artistic Director Titas Halder\u00a0(The Dance of Death) in association with MGC, which marks a\u00a0reunion\u00a0for Sheffield Theatres and\u00a0former Artistic Director Michael Grandage. Olivier Award-winner Jonathan Church (The Drifters Girl) will return to Sheffield Theatres with the sure-fire splash-hit\u00a0<strong>Singin\u2019 in the Rain\u00a0<\/strong>whichwill delight audiences in the Crucible over the festive period.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/xWeb_Photo_Editor-5-3.jpg.pagespeed.ic.vm-oSmZ1tg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25696\" style=\"width:682px;height:auto\"\/>Photo courtesy of Sheffield Theatres<\/p>\n<p>Set in Yorkshire and based on the acclaimed book, the world premiere of\u00a0<strong>The Ballroom<\/strong>\u00a0will mark the return of the Director of\u00a0Everybody\u2019s Talking About Jamie\u00a0to Sheffield Theatres. The production is created and staged by Jonathan Butterell, Kevin Clifton (Strictly Come Dancing) and Anna Hope. Dates and further details will be announced soon.<\/p>\n<p>As always,\u00a0Sheffield Theatres\u2019 programming brings together locally-rooted productions with global stories. The world premiere of Ugandan born and Sheffield bred and based John Rwothomack\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Never Look Back<\/strong>\u00a0(Lines) is a retelling of the East and Southern African soldiers who fought for the Commonwealth in World War II, brought to the stage in a co-production with Sheffield Theatres\u2019 Associate Company Roots Mbili\u00a0Theatre. Sheffield Theatres collaborates with English Touring Theatre and Graeae\u00a0with the world premiere of\u00a0<strong>12 Letters To My Name<\/strong>\u00a0by Sheffield\u2019s Lettie Precious (This is Us), telling the story of two African schoolchildren who have recently made Sheffield their home. The world premiere of the stage adaptation of Sunjeev\u00a0Sahota\u2019s (The Spoiled Heart) novel\u00a0<strong>The Year of the Runaways\u00a0<\/strong>is directed by Artistic Director Elizabeth Newman and adapted by playwright Stephanie Street (Sisters), presented in association with Ranga Shankara.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"630\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/xWeb_Photo_Editor-6-1.jpg.pagespeed.ic.zpT9OdOPgy.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25697\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.904792179925296;width:715px;height:auto\"\/>Photo courtesy of Sheffield Theatres<\/p>\n<p>This autumn,\u00a0<strong>Open Works<\/strong>, a first-of-its-kind festival for Sheffield Theatres, will celebrate artists from across South Yorkshire and beyond in a coming together of creatives that will expand Sheffield as a destination for discovery. A new generation of talent will also take to the stage as Sheffield Theatres\u2019 Youth Theatre present the world premiere of\u00a0<strong>The Trip<\/strong>\u00a0by Janys\u00a0Chambers (North and South), created in collaboration with its young members and creatives. The Women\u2019s Prize for Playwriting 2025 winner,\u202f\u00a0<strong>Sapling\u202f<\/strong>\u00a0by Georgina Duncan will be produced at\u202fSheffield\u202fTheatres, the new venue partner of the Prize, in co-production with Paines\u00a0Plough and the Women\u2019s Prize for Playwriting.\u202fSapling\u202fis a tender and darkly funny story, which follows a young man dealing with the pains of adolescence and the lingering shadow of grief in 1990s Belfast.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"721\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/xWeb_Photo_Editor-7-1.jpg.pagespeed.ic.HXcDV3WqZo.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25699\" style=\"width:660px;height:auto\"\/>Photo courtesy of Sheffield Theatres<\/p>\n<p>After a sold-out West End run,\u00a0KENREX\u00a0opens on Broadway this April and\u00a0Everybody\u2019s Talking About Jamie\u00a0will be touring the UK once again, celebrating ten years since it first burst onto the Crucible stage.
