{"id":825861,"date":"2026-03-14T19:17:18","date_gmt":"2026-03-14T19:17:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/825861\/"},"modified":"2026-03-14T19:17:18","modified_gmt":"2026-03-14T19:17:18","slug":"chris-wilder-bemoans-red-card-decision-in-sheffield-uniteds-draw-at-birmingham-the-irish-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/825861\/","title":{"rendered":"Chris Wilder bemoans red card decision in Sheffield United\u2019s draw at Birmingham \u2013 The Irish News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Chris Wilder criticised the decision that reduced Sheffield United to 10 men for three quarters of their 1-1 draw with Birmingham.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Referee Tim Robinson judged Femi Seriki was the last defender when he fouled Ibrahim Osman in the 23rd minute at St Andrew\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Birmingham\u2019s Marvin Ducksch curled the resulting free-kick past Adam Davies and, having made a good start to the game, the Blades found themselves a goal and a player down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">They should have equalised six minutes later when Sydie Peck missed a penalty, awarded after Jack Robinson needlessly handled in his own area. The referee\u2019s not clear on it, the linesman\u2019s clear on it and then the double whammy of obviously an unbelievable free-kick going in the top corner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">However, Birmingham boss Chris Davies disagreed, saying: \u201cA definite red card, he\u2019s through on goal, he\u2019s the quickest player on the pitch, he\u2019s taking his touch forward and he\u2019s taken down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Wilder was also unhappy with the criticism his team received after their midweek defeat to Norwich and being held to a home draw by West Brom last Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cHow people can question our togetherness is absolutely ridiculous from my point of view,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s such a lazy way of going about it, when you lose a game, \u2018They\u2019re not trying, they\u2019re not running around\u2019. I\u2019ve got the data, they run around.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe lost a game to a decent side on Wednesday night. We didn\u2019t finish off a team on Saturday, we\u2019ve got no divine right to win games in this division, especially as we all talk about not a straightforward season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re not letting anybody down, there\u2019s no guarantee when I walk through the door that we\u2019re just going to go and win 25 games of football and go up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI thought the reaction to that was first class. Sometimes it\u2019s not a win, it\u2019s not a draw, it\u2019s the manner of how you go about it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThe football part of it is really important but it has to be underpinned by resilience, pride, togetherness, bravery, character, personality, belief and I thought from that moment on, then missing the penalty, to a man they left everything out there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Davies felt his side did enough to win, and said: \u201cA real turning point is the goal just before half-time, it gives them something to hang onto, a goal out of nothing.
