{"id":826310,"date":"2026-03-15T00:20:24","date_gmt":"2026-03-15T00:20:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/826310\/"},"modified":"2026-03-15T00:20:24","modified_gmt":"2026-03-15T00:20:24","slug":"cyprus-tops-eu-in-demand-for-stronger-european-protection-during-crises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/826310\/","title":{"rendered":"Cyprus tops EU in demand for stronger European protection during crises"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New Eurobarometer findings published on Saturday showed that <strong>90 per cent of people in Cyprus believe the European Union should play a greater role in protecting the public from global crises, the highest level of support recorded among member states.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Across the EU 66 per cent of respondents want stronger action<\/strong> from the bloc to respond to security threats, economic shocks and other international challenges.<\/p>\n<p>In total 89 per cent of Europeans say member states should be more united to face global challenges while 86 per cent support a stronger EU voice at the international level.<\/p>\n<p>EU citizens also continue to view membership positively, with 62 per cent describing it positively.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Security concerns dominate public opinion across the bloc, with seventy-two per cent of respondents say they are highly worried about conflicts and wars near the EU while 67 per cent express concern about terrorism.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Natural disasters linked to climate change and cyber-attacks from non-EU countries also rank among the top fears.<\/p>\n<p>Respondents also raised strong concerns about developments in the digital sphere.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Around 69 per cent say they are worried about disinformation while 68 per cent fear misleading content generated by artificial intelligence and threats to the protection of personal data online.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When asked about priorities for the European Parliament, those polled place inflation and the rising cost of living first followed by economic growth and job creation.<\/p>\n<p>Europeans say the parliament should focus above all on safeguarding peace, strengthening democracy and protecting human rights within the EU and internationally.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"New Eurobarometer findings published on Saturday showed that 90 per cent of people in Cyprus believe the European&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":826311,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[5174],"tags":[45474,2993,2000,299,5187,1699,72716,2597],"class_list":["post-826310","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-eu","tag-cyprus-news","tag-defence","tag-eu","tag-europe","tag-european","tag-european-union","tag-eurostat","tag-military"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/116230332802916483","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/826310","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=826310"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/826310\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/826311"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=826310"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=826310"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=826310"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
