It\u2019s been more than a decade since Maika Monroe<\/strong> broke out in It Follows<\/strong> (2014), one of the most acclaimed horror films of 2014.<\/p>\n A sequel was finally announced in 2023, revealing that director David Robert Mitchell<\/strong> and Maika Monroe<\/strong> would reunite for They Follow<\/strong> at NEON.<\/p>\n While principal photography was initially planned for 2024, scheduling conflicts delayed the production and pushed it into last year as well. Speaking at SXSW this weekend, Monroe told the crowd<\/a> that the current plan is to (finally) begin filming this summer.<\/p>\n \u201cI did this tiny little movie called It Follows at the very beginning of my career,\u201d she told the crowd. \u201cWe\u2019re filming the sequel this summer.\u201d<\/p>\n She continues: \u201cIt\u2019s been very cool to see\u2026 this character that\u2019s so important to me\u2026 see where she is ten years later.\u201d<\/p>\n In the original film, Monroe\u2019s Jay Height becomes the target of a mysterious supernatural force that begins stalking her after a sexual encounter. In the sequel, the threat has spread, and now it\u2019s EVERYWHERE.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not at all what I expected, where you would find Jay, which I thought was really interesting,\u201d Monroe teased earlier this year<\/a>. \u201cI was like, \u2018Whoa!
