without Parliamentary approval.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Following a fierce legal battle, the <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/us-supreme-court\/index.html\" id=\"mol-f65c48b0-2b4b-11f0-bf26-f7d5344968d5\" rel=\"noopener\">Supreme Court<\/a> ruled in favour of giving MPs a say over the move.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The following year, she admitted she was \u2018the most hated woman in Britain\u2019 due to her high-profile campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Mrs Miller announced today she has secured 70 nominations for the race to become Cambridge\u2019s next Chancellor, exceeding the threshold of 50.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">These will now be verified by the university, with a formal announcement of all successfully nominated candidates expected later this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">For the first time, alumni from around the world will be able to vote online for their favourite candidate \u2013 as previous elections took place in person.<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-80409d80eecbe0d2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/98135641-14687897-image-a-18_1746635749924.jpg\" height=\"405\" width=\"634\" alt=\"A Remainer poster girl who sparked outrage by trying to stop Brexit is making a bid to become Cambridge University's next Chancellor (pictured: Gina Miller)\" class=\"blkBorder img-share\" style=\"max-width:100%\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>   <\/p>\n<p class=\"imageCaption\">A Remainer poster girl who sparked outrage by trying to stop Brexit is making a bid to become Cambridge University&#8217;s next Chancellor (pictured: Gina Miller)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">While the role is largely ceremonial, the Chancellor can still set the symbolic direction of the university and give advice to campus management.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Mrs Miller said today: \u2018At a time when truth, academia, experts and facts are being undermined, Cambridge must stand tall as a fearless defender of academic freedom and excellence.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">She said she would use the role as \u2018an active platform\u2019 to \u2018amplify Cambridge\u2019s values, promote ethical leadership, and boost the university\u2019s role in shaping a fairer, more informed, and solution-driven world.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">And she added: \u2018Cambridge must continue to attract the best research talent from around the world \u2013 especially from the United States, where academics are facing growing attacks.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Lord Sainsbury of Turville, who replaced the Duke of Edinburgh in the position, announced he intended to step down from the role last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Voting will take place in July.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Others vying for the position include Cambridge astrophysicist Wyn Evans and former BP chief executive Lord Browne.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Mrs Miller, a businesswoman, ran a second campaign in 2019 over Boris Johnson&#8217;s decision to suspend Parliament in the run-up to Brexit, ultimately leading to a ruling of unlawfulness by the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-d785008d9da88417\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/98135869-14687897-image-a-19_1746635763606.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\" alt=\"Gina Miller, the controversial campaigner, has put herself forward for election to the historic role, saying she would use it to 'promote ethical leadership' (pictured: Trinity College, Cambridge)\" class=\"blkBorder img-share\" style=\"max-width:100%\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>   <\/p>\n<p class=\"imageCaption\">Gina Miller, the controversial campaigner, has put herself forward for election to the historic role, saying she would use it to &#8216;promote ethical leadership&#8217;
