{"id":82717,"date":"2025-05-07T20:08:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-07T20:08:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/82717\/"},"modified":"2025-05-07T20:08:10","modified_gmt":"2025-05-07T20:08:10","slug":"eu-would-pursue-gradual-lifting-of-sanctions-on-syria-french-president-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/82717\/","title":{"rendered":"EU would pursue \u2018gradual lifting of sanctions\u2019 on Syria, French president says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ISTANBUL\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The EU would pursue to gradually lift sanctions on Syria, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday during a joint news conference with his Syrian counterpart Ahmed al-Sharaa, who traveled to Paris on his first visit to a European country since taking office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI told the president that if he continues on his path, we will continue on ours: first, by gradually lifting European economic sanctions,\u201d Macron said.<\/p>\n<p>He said they would further initiate a \u201cprocess of persuasion\u201d with the US so that they engage along the same path and also work with UNHCR and their partners to establish a regional framework allowing Syria \u201cto see its talents and vital forces return to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo do this, it will be necessary to provide guarantees on the proper use of international funds.
