{"id":828520,"date":"2026-03-16T00:52:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-16T00:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/828520\/"},"modified":"2026-03-16T00:52:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T00:52:13","slug":"conan-obrien-oscars-monologue-best-jokes-timothee-chalamet-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/828520\/","title":{"rendered":"Conan O&#8217;Brien Oscars Monologue Best Jokes: Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet &#038; More"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tConan O\u2019Brien took aim at some of Hollywood\u2019s biggest targets in a spirited <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/oscars\/\" id=\"auto-tag_oscars\" data-tag=\"oscars\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oscars<\/a> opening monologue on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHe also joked about Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet\u2019s recent <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/news\/kevin-oleary-defends-timothee-chalamet-ballet-opera-controversy-1236688841\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ballet and opera comments<\/a> that became controversial online. \u201cSecurity is very tight tonight,\u201d O\u2019Brien quipped. \u201cThere\u2019s concerns about attacks from the ballet and opera communities.\u201d He then addressed Chalamet, saying, \u201cThey\u2019re just mad you left out jazz.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tO\u2019Brien also teased that, \u201cI should warn you: Tonight could get political. Okay? And if that makes you uncomfortable, there\u2019s an alternate Oscars being hosted by Kid Rock. It\u2019s at the Dave &amp; Buster\u2019s down the street.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHe also mocked Ted Sarandos, saying it was his first time in a theater. \u201cWhy are they all together enjoying themselves? They should be home alone, where I can monetize it,\u201d O\u2019Brien-as-Sarandos said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe host ended the monologue on a more serious note, saying, \u201cTonight is an international event. If I can be serious for just a moment, everyone watching right now around the world is all too aware that these are very chaotic, frightening times. It\u2019s at moments like these that I believe The Oscars are particularly resonant. 31 countries across six continents are represented this evening. And every film we salute is the product of thousands of people speaking different languages, working hard to make something of beauty. We pay tribute tonight not just to film but to the ideals of global artistry, collaboration, patience, resilience, and that rarest of qualities today, optimism. So let us, please, celebrate not because we think all is well but because we work and hope for better in the days ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tO\u2019Brien opened the show with a pre-taped segment where he was made up as Amy Madigan\u2019s Aunt Gladys from \u201cWeapons,\u201d interrupting scenes from Best Picture nominees as he\u2019s pursued by the film\u2019s killer kids. That segment transitioned into a live shot of kids chasing a stuntman into the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, where O\u2019Brien then came out fresh-faced in a tux.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tO\u2019Brien is returning to host the show after doing it for the first time last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn the days leading up to this year\u2019s ceremony, O\u2019Brien appeared on \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=29sa4FH4Wdg\" target=\"_blank\">Jimmy Kimmel Live<\/a>\u201d to talk about the challenges of writing a monologue in a rapid news cycle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cHere\u2019s an interesting thing about these monologues,\u201d he said. \u201cWe started working on this thing in early January, late December, and people will write jokes that are, \u2018Oh, this great joke.\u2019 And then you realize it\u2019s 35 news cycles ago now. So you\u2019ll be like, \u2018Can you believe what\u2019s going on with Venezuela? That\u2019s insane.\u2019 There were a couple of months ago where it was like, \u2018That\u2019s great.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tO\u2019Brien admitted that even other shows during awards season can throw off planned material.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cSo you\u2019ll write something and you see jokes come and go because we live in fast times,\u201d he continued. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot happening. There\u2019s a lot of other award shows. There are other invasions. There\u2019s all this new stuff happening all the time, and you need to keep up with it.
