\n\tSo far, One Battle After Another and Frankenstein are the only film with three wins tonight, and Warner Bros leads among feature distributors with five. Netflix is next with four, plus one for Live Action Short. <\/p>\n

\n\tPaul Thomas Anderson took the statuette for Best Adapted Screenplay for One Battle After Another \u2014 his first Academy Award on his 14th nomination. Ryan Coogler followed with his first Oscar triumph, taking Original Screenplay for Warner Bros\u2019 Sinners. It was his fifth career nomination. Anderson and Coogler also claimed the same prizes at the Writers Guild Awards<\/a> last weekend as their films tussled through awards season.<\/p>\n

\n\tOne Battle After Another\u2018s Sean Penn won Best Supporting Actor, following up his win at the Actor Awards<\/a> this month. It\u2019s his third career Oscar but first in the category. He also has three other noms for Lead Actor. Penn wasn\u2019t at the ceremony to accept his prize.<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\tAfter host Conan O\u2019Brien\u2019s monologue<\/a>, Amy Madigan<\/a> took home the first prize of the night, winning Best Supporting Actress for her role as creepy Aunt Gladys in Warner Bros\u2019 Weapons<\/a>. She gained awards-season momentum by winning at the Critics Choice and Actor Awards. Madigan also was a Supporting Actress Oscar nominee for Twice in a Life back in 1986. \n\tThe inaugural Oscar for Best Casting<\/a> went to Cassandra Kulukundis of Warner Bros\u2019 One Battle After Another. It was something of an upset in that the film was shut out at Casting Society\u2019s Artios Awards<\/a> in late February. The category\u2019s nominees were announced one by one, honoring the award\u2019s historic debut at the Academy Awards. <\/p>\n

\n\tNetflix\u2019s Frankenstein has three wins for craft awards, including two back-to-back for Best Makeup & Hairstyling and Best Costume Design. It later the statuette for Production Design. Netflix\u2019s pic was a winner at the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards<\/a> last month, taking that prize for Best Special Make-Up Prosthetics in Make-Up\/Hairstyling. It also won for Excellence in Period Film at the CDGA<\/a> and for Period Feature Film at the Art Directors Guild Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tKPop Demon Hunters, Netflix\u2019s most popular film ever<\/a>, won the golden statuette for Best Animated Feature. The film produced by Sony Pictures Animation swept the Annie Awards last month<\/a>, going 10-for-10 in its nominated categories. It has been streamed more than 500 million times, and its soundtrack has been streamed more than 11 billion times (with a capital B). \n\t20th Century Studios\u2019 billion-dollar threequel Avatar: Fire and Ash won Best Visual Effects. It\u2019s a sucker bet to pick against a pic in James Cameron\u2019s historic franchise, which has taken FX Oscars for the original in 2010 and Avatar: The Way of Water in 2023. Fire and Ash dominated the VES Awards<\/a> with seven wins last month.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Girl Who Cried Pearls\u00a0<\/strong>followed with a win for Best Animated Short. Colm Feore narrates English-language version of the pic that debuted at last year\u2019s Annecy International Film Festival. Later, The Singers\u00a0(Netflix) and Two People Exchanging Saliva\u00a0(Canal+\/The New Yorker) both won for Live Action Short in only the seventh tie in Oscars history<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tLeading the field coming in, of course, is Warner Bros\u2019 one-two punch of Sinners<\/a> and One Battle After Another<\/a>, which have been brawling at trophy shows for months. Ryan Coogler\u2019s period horror smash scored a record 16 Oscar noms<\/a>, and Paul Thomas Anderson\u2019s action comedy is next with 13. Both are up for Best Picture tonight.
