It might have been an almighty flop at the cinema but it seems there\u2019s life in the Joker sequel<\/a> Folie \u00e0 Deux yet.<\/p>\n And it\u2019s all thanks to streaming platforms, where the ill-fated 2024 blockbuster is proving very popular \u2014 including finding its way into Netflix\u2019s global most-watched charts.<\/p>\n According to stats from FlixPatrol, the film is currently the 10th most-popular movie worldwide on the platform two years after it first hit screens.<\/p>\n Folie \u00e0 Deux newfound success is even more notable considering it\u2019s only been released on Netflix in limited locations.<\/p>\n Viewers in central and South America \u2013 including those in Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Brazil<\/a> and Mexico<\/a> \u2013 can watch it on Netflix, as can those in Canada<\/a>, the Bahamas and Jamaica.<\/p>\n \t\t However, it\u2019s not yet available to stream on the platform in the UK, where viewers will have to pay to watch it on Amazon Prime Video<\/a>, Apple TV or Google Play \u2013 or via a NOW TV<\/a> subscription. It\u2019s also available to rent from Sky Store.<\/p>\n Originally released in 2024, Joker: Folie \u00e0 Deux was Todd Phillips\u2019 follow-up to his 2019 smash Joker \u2014 which won Joaquin Phoenix<\/a> an Oscar for his portrayal of the tormented Batman adversary.<\/p>\n The musical sequel picks up where the first film left off, with Joker \u2013 aka Arthur Fleck \u2013 standing trial for his crimes. While imprisoned at Arkham, he meets the luminous Harleen \u2018Lee\u2019 Quinzel (Lady Gaga<\/a>), who helps him to come to terms with his fractured identity.<\/p>\n It premiered at the Venice Film Festival that year, but got off to a rocky start after becoming become the first Hollywood<\/a> comic book movie in history to receive a dismal D CinemaScore rating from opening night audiences.<\/p>\n \t\t It went on to lose roughly $70,000,000<\/a> (\u00a353.5m) at the box office in its opening few days, and landed on streaming platforms<\/a> just a month after its cinema release.<\/p>\n Critics weren\u2019t too kind to the film either. It holds a dismal 31% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with The Sun saying: \u2018This Joker feels more like an ego project for him and Phillips, rather than a film for fans\u2019 and Film Stories calling it \u2018a dull courtroom drama that mostly discusses the events of the first film\u2019.<\/p>\n It did have its fans, however, with Sight and Sound saying: \u2018Folie \u00e0 Deux is a far less morally quarrelsome film, which makes it both less interesting and a sight more enjoyable \u2013 if you like the songs.\u2019 <\/p>\n Meanwhile Metro also defended the film, saying it had been wrongly criticised <\/a>for its musical roots.<\/p>\n \t\t Even its own cast took shots at the final film. American comic Tim Dillon, who had a small role as one of the Arkham Asylum security guards in the beleaguered sequel, introduced Joker 2 as \u2018the worst film ever made\u2019 during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. <\/p>\n The comedian also claimed that he and other actors working with him slammed the movie while they were still working on it as \u2018c***\u2019 and predicted it would \u2018bomb\u2019, adding that during filming he described it as \u2018the worst thing I\u2019ve ever seen\u2019.<\/p>\n Phillips previously shied away from describing it<\/a> as a musical, saying:\u00a0\u2018Most of the music in the movie is really just dialogue.<\/p>\n \u2018It\u2019s just Arthur not having the words to say what he wants to say, so he sings them instead.
