Claressa Shields will be remaining at heavyweight, at least for her next fight.<\/p>\n
The undisputed women\u2019s heavyweight champion will face Lani Daniels on July 26 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.<\/p>\n
The news was announced Wednesday afternoon by Shields on social media, with promoter Dmitriy Salita confirming the news to BoxingScene.<\/p>\n
Daniels, 11-2-2 (1 KOs), of Whangarei, New Zealand is the current IBF light heavyweight champion in her second reign. Despite having turned pro at 180lbs, the 5ft 8ins Shields will still have an inch and a half height advantage.<\/p>\n
Shields, 16-0 (3 KOs), of nearby Flint is six years younger than the 36-year-old Daniels, and now holds all four major women\u2019s heavyweight championship titles. The two-time Olympic gold medalist had previously unified titles at 154lbs, 160lbs and 168lbs.<\/p>\n
Shields draws parallels between Shields-Daniels and Jack Johnson\u2019s 1908 trip to New Zealand\u2019s neighboring country Australia, when he became the first African-American to win the heavyweight championship with a decision win over Tommy Burns.<\/p>\n
