They have lived there since November 2025, but they still retain their London base, <a class=\"hm-link he-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hellomagazine.com\/homes\/841839\/prince-william-princess-kate-apartment-1a-kensington-palace\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"article-body-link\">Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace<\/a>, to use when they are in the city. <strong>Before the royal couple first moved into the 20-room residence in 2013, it required extensive renovations \u2013 including the removal of a hazardous material.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"e3tuSTbRwR5\" data-wc=\"60\"><strong>\u00a0The renovations inside the property came to \u00a3600,000 and the roof repair cost \u00a3400,000, meaning a whopping \u00a31 million was spent preparing the space for their arrival.<\/strong> It was last lived in by Princess Margaret and had not been refurbished since the early Sixties. It is made up of 20 different rooms, including five reception rooms, three main bedrooms, dressing rooms, a nursery, a gym, and separate staff quarters. The Grade II-listed Georgian home was gutted in 2001 and underwent a <a class=\"hm-link he-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hellomagazine.com\/homes\/850754\/prince-william-kate-middleton-home-forest-lodge-renovations-governed-by-rules-photos\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"article-body-link\" rel=\"noopener\">full renovation<\/a>. Then, ahead of the family moving in, the interior overhauled again. It is believed that work is still ongoing as Princess Kate let slip about mood boards during a recent meeting.<\/p>\n<p id=\"esjkWU2XzCU3\" data-wc=\"42\">Moving to the countryside was a decision best for their family, with their love for the great outdoors.
