Lot of people do their version of Faithless and Insomnia, all those big international records, no-one tackles a Brothers and Sisters or a Pretty Green Eyes because they’re very big cult Liverpool records.

“Maybe some of those records don’t transcend internationally, but for a local audience they’re absolutely iconic.

“To give you an example, Kristine Blond plays Reminisce every other year and she had a hit record called Love Shy that was originally a pop record. There were two big re-mixes, one of them was a garage sounding record and the other was by Electric Boutique and it had an early trance feel.

“For whatever reason the Electric Boutique version became a Liverpool classic, one of those brilliantly well-loved records in the city that became people’s wedding song, it was just mad.

“One of the first years of Reminisce there was a big headline act, a real household name, and then we had little Kristine Blond. And we couldn’t believe that all the hype and excitement was all about Kristine because Love Shy was a song that resonated so massively with Scousers.

“So that was the mentality behind Reminisce Classical. Can we do it, and can we do it with a soundtrack that’s very much in touch with our audience?”

Credit: Anthony Mooney
Credit: Anthony Mooney

The response was overwhelmingly positive.

Steve says: “I wasn’t surprised, but I was very pleased.

“I was confident that people would love it but there are never any guarantees. To see it happening and to get the response we did was brilliant but with this I’m a bit more nervy because it’s on its own.

“The other was part of a big show and if people didn’t like it they could walk off and watch something else, whereas this is all about Reminisce Classical and the DJs that are going to play with it.”

The venue was carefully chosen: “The Dome holds around 1,200 so it will still seem intimate and it has that theatrical feel, so it’s just perfect for it.

“Half the people coming are Reminisce people who love the music and want to see it performed by an orchestra so it’s a different vibe, and half are new customers who love their old skool but feel they’re too old for a club or maybe a muddy festival field’s not quite their thing.

“Fingers crossed, we can shift the last few tickets and have a sell-out concert.
