Despite his status as one of the leading Grand Tour riders of the current era, <a href=\"https:\/\/cyclinguptodate.com\/paris-nice\" title=\"Paris-Nice\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paris-Nice<\/a> had previously proved an elusive race for the Danish climber.\u201cParis-Nice had never really suited <a href=\"https:\/\/cyclinguptodate.com\/jonas-vingegaard\" title=\"Jonas Vingegaard\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jonas Vingegaard<\/a>,\u201d Prudhomme explained. \u201cHe finished third two years ago behind <a href=\"https:\/\/cyclinguptodate.com\/tadej-pogacar\" title=\"Tadej Pogacar\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tadej Pogacar<\/a> and David Gaudu. Last year, he had to abandon while leading the race on the morning of a stage after a crash. He really wanted to win it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year, however, the Visma rider left little doubt about the outcome. Vingegaard took two stage victories during the decisive middle part of the race and built a commanding lead in the general classification that ultimately stretched to more than four minutes over Daniel Martinez. \u201cHe did it, and he did it with style,\u201d Prudhomme added.<\/p>\n<p>Early signals in the Vingegaard Pogacar rivalry<\/p>\n<p>The victory in France arrived only days after Pogacar had delivered another statement performance of his own by winning Strade Bianche for the fourth time in his career.<\/p>\n<p>Those results have already begun to frame the early story of the season.
