New houses, high-spec research labs and workspaces are expected to drive growth.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The funding will also be invested in transport to improve connectivity. These measures are expected to improve housing conditions, create jobs and ensure access for commuters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the announcement, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessweekly.co.uk\/posts\/government-unveils-new-ps800m-plans-to-make-oxford-cambridge-arc-europes-silicon-valley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">government source<\/a> said: \u201cOur plans for the Oxford-Cambridge corridor are ambitious. And the prize on offer is to have the Silicon Valley of Europe here in Britain \u2013 bringing more jobs and more vibrant places to live. We have the right economic plan and this week the Chancellor will set out how the regions are crucial to the next decade of growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fstechsummit.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"FS Technology Summit 2026\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/1773829517_560_Copy-of-FS26-Banners.jpg\" alt=\"FS Technology Summit 2026\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The focus on the Ox-Cam corridor is not new. The government as already committed to investing in the area, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessweekly.co.uk\/posts\/government-unveils-new-ps800m-plans-to-make-oxford-cambridge-arc-europes-silicon-valley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">including<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Confirming \u00a32.5 billion for East West Rail<\/li>\n<li>Establishing the UK\u2019s first AI Growth Zone in Culham, with \u00a32.5 billion for fusion at UKAEA<\/li>\n<li>Fast-tracking plans for two new reservoirs in Oxfordshire and Cambridgeshire, as part of a \u00a3104 billion private sector funding package<\/li>\n<li>Supporting Universal Studios to open a world-class theme park in Bedfordshire, which will generate a \u00a350bn boost for the economy and create around 28,000 jobs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/oxford-cambridge-corridor-to-be-uks-silicon-valley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">government update<\/a> confirmed the chancellor\u2019s continued focus on the area. She noted that landowners who block developments may be subject to compulsory purchase powers to ensure progress isn\u2019t hindered.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Reeves, said: \u201cWe\u2019re\u202fbuilding corridors of growth and\u202fflinging open the doors of opportunity for every part of Britain.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom the great northern cities to the cutting edge labs of Oxford and Cambridge,\u202fwe are betting on Britain\u2019s regions to power the next wave of innovation and growth.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She added: \u201cThis is the right economic plan in an age of uncertainty.\u201d\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The chancellor is expected to share further plans for a development corporation in Greater Oxford to accelerate growth in the area. Similar schemes have previously had success in Canary Wharf and Stratford.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The development corporation is expected to speed up regeneration of the area, and ensure growth is effectively delivered more efficiently.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recommended reading<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A similar development corporation for Cambridge was launched earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>The investment would support the technology, manufacturing and research sectors in both cities.<\/p>\n<p>Dan Thorp, CEO of Cambridge Ahead, said: \u201cCambridge, the UK\u2019s most innovative city, can deliver the breakthroughs, companies, and jobs that drive UK growth and productivity\u201d, he added, \u201cbacking and investment are vital tailwinds that support this ambition.<\/p>\n<p>The city must now focus on \u201cinvesting wisely and at pace, and ensuring Cambridge remains one of the world\u2019s best places to do business, live and work\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Andy Williams, Chair of the Supercluster Board stated: \u201cEstablishing a new development company in Oxford alongside further support for Cambridge\u2019s Growth Company, is exactly the kind of sustained focus needed to unlock the full potential of the region.
