Leeds United striker Harry Gray is currently managerless following Rotherham United\u2019s decision to fire head coach Matt Hamshaw on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n

Hamshaw, who brought Gray<\/a> in on loan for the second half of the season, has been dismissed after Tuesday night\u2019s 5-0 defeat to Peterborough United. The result leaves the club six points from safety in the League One relegation zone with nine games left to play.<\/p>\n

Gray missed the heavy loss due to a hamstring problem and is a doubt for Saturday\u2019s trip to league leaders Lincoln City, with there no guarantee a new manager is appointed before the fixture.<\/p>\n

Gray, 17, started all 12 previous League One games for Rotherham since joining in January, scoring two goals in his first four games. A change of manager naturally incurs the risk that the striker might be afforded less game time for the rest of his loan spell.<\/p>\n

Rotherham United\u2019s statement announcing the departure of Hamshaw, who won 16 and lost 25 of his 53 games in charge, read: “Rotherham United can confirm that the club has parted ways with first team manager Matt Hamshaw.<\/p>\n

“Following last night\u2019s defeat at Peterborough United, the Board has informed Matt that the difficult decision had been reached to relieve him of his duties with immediate effect.<\/p>\n

“It is with a heavy heart that we end our affiliation with an individual who has strong historical connections and a clear passion for Rotherham United, but with the club currently six points from safety in Sky Bet League One, it was deemed necessary to take action to give the team the best possible opportunity of preserving our divisional status in our remaining nine games this season.”<\/p>\n

Gray\u2019s loan at Rotherham is his first sustained spell of senior football, having made his competitive first-team debut for Leeds United<\/a> last April in the 6-0 thrashing of Stoke City on Championship promotion day.<\/p>\n
