4<\/p>\n James Messham died following an ‘altercation’ on board a cruise ship on SaturdayCredit: Facebook 4<\/p>\n The tragedy took place hours after the MSC Virtuosa set sail for BrugesCredit: MSC Rights<\/p>\n The luxury<\/a> ship was still in British waters after leaving Southampton, Hants, at 6pm enroute to Bruges.<\/p>\n Police<\/a> arrested a 57-year-old man from Exeter<\/a> on suspicion of murder when the two-night cruise returned on Monday.<\/p>\n Mr Messham is understood to have been travelling with relatives who helped him run popular motorbike stunt show the Wall of Death.<\/p>\n Joby Carter described him as a \u201cproper gent\u201d who was part of Carter’s Steam Fair until around eight years ago.<\/p>\n Read more about cruise ships<\/p>\n He said: \u201cI was absolutely gutted when I heard the news<\/a>. He was a legend.<\/p>\n \u201cWe used to travel Carter\u2019s Steam Fair. He approached us because he had a wall of death and wanted to travel with us.<\/p>\n \u201cWe always got along with him. He was a proper gent, salt of the earth<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cYou knew if you had a problem he would come and help you any time day or night.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was such a trier and did really well in the haulage business<\/a> as well.<\/p>\n \u201cTravelling the Wall of Death is a labour of love. I still spoke to him a couple of times a year.<\/p>\n \u201cYou couldn\u2019t watch that show without the hairs on your arms coming up.\u201d<\/p>\n An on-board army<\/a> medic is believed to have treated stunt performer Mr Messham, who also rode motorbikes<\/a> as part of the daredevil show.<\/p>\n His family in Sussex<\/a> were too upset to speak – but some relatives have posted touching pictures in memory of their dad on Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n Hampshire<\/a> and Isle of Wight<\/a> Constabulary released the arrested suspect on bail on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n Among shocked guests was Traitors winner Harry Clark, who was enjoying a long weekend with his girlfriend and pals on MSC Virtuosa.<\/p>\n Like many other passengers, the reality TV star had no idea about the tragic death until later on.<\/p>\n A source said: \u201cHarry is clearly very shocked and saddened by the news<\/a> and is thinking of the individual\u2019s family and friends.<\/p>\n \u201cYou really don\u2019t expect that to happen on a cruise and it\u2019s a very scary situation.\u201d<\/p>\n Harry, 23, who won the \u00a395,000 prize in last year\u2019s series of the hit BBC<\/a> show, took selfies with other guests during an onboard white party.<\/p>\n His girlfriend Anna, 24, sister of singer Connor Maynard, posted snaps captioned on Instagram: \u201cStripe obsession and lift selfies on a cruise.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr Messham\u2019s death was the second tragedy onboard MSC Virtuosa in a matter of months.<\/p>\n Colombian national Jessica Andrea G\u00f3mez Granda, 28, died after falling overboard near the Channel Islands in October.<\/p>\n The ship is used to film<\/a> Channel 5<\/a> drama The Good Ship Murder starring X Factor winner Shayne Ward<\/a>.<\/p>\n Det Chief Insp Matt Gillooly, Hampshire<\/a> and Isle of Wight<\/a> Constabulary\u2019s senior investigating officer, said: \u201cWe want to reassure you that this appears to be an isolated incident onboard and we want to thank the crew for their cooperation and assistance with our enquiries.\u201d<\/p>\n A spokesperson for MSC Virtuosa said: \u201cFollowing an incident on board our ship, the relevant authorities were contacted, and we are co-operating fully with their investigations.
