Liverpool and Manchester United are both being mooted to make a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers\u2019 Joao Gomes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gomes was linked<\/a> to the Reds this past summer and has previously said he would be open to playing at Anfield<\/a>, saying back in 2022: \u201cLiverpool is a team I would play for.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, a new report this week claims Liverpool<\/a>, along with their long-time rivals, are stepping up interest in the Wolves ace amid concerns about Alexis Mac Allister<\/a> and Curtis Jones\u2019<\/a> futures.<\/p>\n

Rob Edwards has called the midfielder a \u2018wonderful player\u2019 this season, as per BBC Sport<\/a>, with TEAMtalk<\/a> now saying that he is emerging as a \u2018major transfer target\u2019 this summer.<\/p>\n

Man Utd are said to have a number of potential long-term midfield options, with Gomes now among them.<\/p>\n

As for Liverpool, they are now putting more importance on signing a holding midfielder.<\/p>\n

This comes amid concerns about the futures of Jones and Mac Allister at Anfield.<\/p>\n

Aside from said duo, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch are the only other senior options for that position, and the former was hardly being used by Slot anyway prior to his long-term injury.<\/p>\n

Will Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister leave Liverpool?<\/p>\n

Jones was linked to Inter Milan<\/a> in the January transfer window and has since been used as a rotation option in the following months.<\/p>\n

But while he did stay put, there has been a suggestion that the Liverpool Academy product could leave<\/a> in the summer in search of more regular football.<\/p>\n

Since the winter window closed, he has been handed just one Premier League start, and that only came because Florian Wirtz pulled out of the XI to take on Nottingham Forest shortly before kick-off.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Mac Allister has been linked with Real Madrid<\/a> amid his current contract expiring in 2028.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the South American said last week that he would love to return to Argentina<\/a> at some point.<\/p>\n

He stated: \u201cI would love to go back to Argentina,\u201d he said. \u201cI became a dad and you start prioritizing a lot of things, and maybe it\u2019s not so selfish to only do what I want.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d love to return to Argentinos Juniors because my dad and my brothers all grew up there and we\u2019re grateful. And then, obviously, to Boca at some point.\u201d<\/p>\n
