The fastest and most convenient way to speak another language from your wrist is with Apple\u2019s app.<\/p>\n<p>Keep reading or <a href=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/shorts\/0KchTlXZ1G4\" data-lasso-id=\"1641757829\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">watch our video here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>How to use the Apple Watch Translate app<\/p>\n<p>The Translate app is Apple\u2019s own equivalent to Google Translate, the widely popular free online service. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cultofmac.com\/how-to\/iphone-translate-app\" data-lasso-id=\"1641757830\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apple Translate is available as a standalone app on iPhone, iPad<\/a> and Mac. Griffin Jones\/Cult of Mac<\/p>\n<p>Click the Digital Crown (dial) on your Apple Watch and open the\u00a0<strong>Translate<\/strong> app (with the icon of two speech bubbles, one white and one blue). It\u2019s easier to find in List View \u2014 scroll down to the bottom of your app list, then tap\u00a0<strong>List View<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t see the Translate app, you may need to update to watchOS 11. Make sure <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cultofmac.com\/ios-18\" data-lasso-id=\"1641757338\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">your iPhone is running iOS 18<\/a>. Then, open the <strong>Watch<\/strong> app, and tap\u00a0<strong>General &gt; Software Update<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Pick two languages<\/p>\n<p>When you open the Translate app, you\u2019ll see a tile on the screen where you can pick two languages. One should match the language you have set on your watch. Tap on either one to scroll through the list of available languages.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Swap Languages<\/strong> button will switch which language you\u2019re speaking and which one you\u2019re translating.<\/p>\n<p>Tap the microphone icon and speak<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Translating-on-Apple-Watch.jpg\" data-lasso-id=\"1641757834\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-898832\" title=\"Translating on Apple Watch\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Translating-on-Apple-Watch.jpg\" alt=\"Translate app on Apple Watch translating \u201cI live in a giant bucket\u201d to \u201cVivo in un secchio gigante,\u201d in Italian.\" width=\"1080\" height=\"880\"  \/><\/a>Much easier than learning it in twenty different languages.<br \/>Screenshot: D. Griffin Jones\/Cult of Mac<\/p>\n<p>Tap the\u00a0<strong>Dictation<\/strong> button at the bottom and start speaking. You\u2019ll see a live transcription of what you\u2019re saying. It\u2019ll automatically end if you pause at the end of a sentence \u2014 otherwise, you can tap the <strong>Stop<\/strong> button manually.<\/p>\n<p>Play the translation out loud<\/p>\n<p>Tap the\u00a0<strong>Play<\/strong> button next to a translation to play it out loud from your Apple Watch\u2019s speaker. You can spin the Digital Crown while it\u2019s playing to adjust volume.<\/p>\n<p>Tap the keyboard icon and type<\/p>\n<p>If you prefer to type your translations, you can try that as well. Tap the\u00a0<strong>Options<\/strong> (<strong>\u22ef<\/strong>) button in the upper right. Scroll down and tap\u00a0<strong>Preferred Input<\/strong> and select <strong>Text<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, you\u2019ll see a <strong>Keyboard<\/strong> button at the bottom instead. On an Apple Watch Series 7 or later, you\u2019ll see a full QWERTY keyboard. You can type letter-by-letter or swipe with your finger to enter a full word at a time.<\/p>\n<p>On an older model with a smaller screen, you can draw one letter at a time. (To switch to this system from a newer watch, tap the <strong>Change Input Method<\/strong> icon in the bottom right and tap the <strong>Scribble<\/strong>\u00a0icon.)<\/p>\n<p>Mark a favorite Translate phrase from your Apple Watch<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Translate-App-Favorites-and-Settings.jpg\" data-lasso-id=\"1641757835\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-898833\" title=\"Translate App Favorites and Settings\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Translate-App-Favorites-and-Settings.jpg\" alt=\"Marking a phrase as a favorite, and viewing settings.\" width=\"1080\" height=\"880\"  \/><\/a>Auto-Play Translations is a useful setting to check for real-world use.<br \/>Screenshot: D. Griffin Jones\/Cult of Mac<\/p>\n<p>You can mark a particular phrase as a favorite, for easy access at any point in the future. Swipe right on a phrase and tap <strong>Favorite<\/strong> to mark it as a favorite.<\/p>\n<p>Find your favorite phrases by tapping\u00a0<strong>Favorites<\/strong> (the star icon) in the upper left.
