It might even be fine this weekend if you go see Project Hail Mary in IMAX, where, we’re guessing, the new Dune trailer might also appear. But for the rest of us who don’t want to wait, the internet has created something really funny but also excellent: a Franken-IMAX online version of the trailer.

This week, an X user named KDCloudy pointed out that if you take the vertical Instagram version of the trailer and superimpose it on top of the horizontal YouTube version of the trailer, several scenes get much wider, duplicating an IMAX experience. Another internet user, YouTube name Wniebowziety, then did just that, and well, it’s kind of amazing.

At an event this week, Villeneuve expanded on how he was able to shoot Dune: Part Three in multiple ways and why IMAX is his preferred version of the film. “We shot the movie in 65 millimeter, most of it,” he said. “A big part of it was also shot on IMAX film, a first time for me. But I kept the desert in digital because I liked the brutality of the digital IMAX.”

So, as he said, IMAX will be the way to see the movie when it hits theaters. And even though it’s currently scheduled to open the same day as Avengers: Doomsday, only Dune: Part Three will be on IMAX screens, at least for a few weeks. And those tickets are sure to go incredibly fast when they’re on sale later this year.

For now, what did you notice, if anything, from the Franken-IMAX cut of the trailer? Does it make you more excited than the original embed? Let us know below.

Want more io9 news?
