Fashion house Dior<\/a> has revealed the Dior Bamboo Pavilion concept store in Tokyo<\/a>‘s Daikanyama area with a facade<\/a> that was designed to evoke Japanese bamboo forests.<\/p>\n

The exterior of the 1,800-square-metre store was designed to replicate Dior’s townhouse at 30 Montaigne, Paris, similar to Dior Gold House, another concept store that opened in Bangkok<\/a> in 2024.<\/p>\n

\"DiorThe store is clad in a golden bamboo facade and decorated with a star<\/p>\n

The facade was designed to reference Japanese bamboo forests and is lit up at night. On top of the building sits the Dior star, which has been the symbol of the house since 1947.<\/p>\n

While the facade reimagines a French townhouse created from a material that’s common in Asia, the interior design aimed to blend French touches, such as Versailles parquet flooring, with examples of Japanese craftsmanship.<\/p>\n

Inside, the Dior Bamboo Pavilion has multiple green spaces, including a conceptual garden by horticulturist Seijun Nishihata<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Artist Azuma Makoto<\/a>\u00a0designed a “green haven” of floral art, while designer Kodai Iwamoto<\/a> created a teahouse made using Japanese craft techniques from materials such as thatch and bamboo.<\/p>\n

In another nod to its location, the Dior Bamboo Pavilion has a pond filled with koi carp.<\/p>\n

Other local touches include Japanese lanterns that were designed to resemble the Lady Dior bag and washi paper wall finishes sculpted like the Parisian mouldings in the headquarters.<\/p>\n

Described by the brand as “an Eden spread over more than 1,800 square meters, where a thousand and one botanical references come to life in homage to Christian Dior’s love for the beauty of nature”, the store was created to showcase the collections by new creative director Jonathan Anderson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

These include menswear and womenswear, as well as leather goods, jewellery and accessories.<\/p>\n

Contemporary Japanese designers, including\u00a0 Takt Project<\/a>, Sho Ota<\/a>, Ayumi Shibata<\/a>, We+<\/a>, Hana Mitsui<\/a> and Chikaken<\/a>, have also created pieces for the space.<\/p>\n

Visitors will also be able to experience French cuisine at the Cafe Dior, which features a menu by chef Anne-Sophie Pic.<\/p>\n

“More than just a boutique, the Dior Bamboo Pavilion proposes a journey into the history of the Maison, featuring its signature models, from the Bar suit to the Junon dress,” Dior stated.<\/p>\n

Also in Daikanyama, Japanese studio Schemata Architects recently renovated a store for perfumer Le Labo<\/a> that evokes the city’s urban streets.<\/p>\n
