Manchester to being the fourth tallest city in Europe, with more than 200 towers over 50 metres<\/p>\n<p>Manchester is set to become the fourth tallest city in Europe according to Barbour\u2019s High Rise Construction Market Report, which identifies 26 buildings over 100 metres tall, with 10 over 150 metres, up from just four over 100 metres in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Manchester itself has seen significant growth over the last decade, with its local economy performing twice as well as the UK\u2019s as a whole at 3.1% annual growth.<\/p>\n<p>Manchester high-rise projects include:<br \/>\nCommercial and retail projects in planning:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Manchester Innovation District Sister Plot C (\u00a3162m) \u2013 a joint partnership between the University of Manchester and Bruntwood SciTech to create a flagship flexible working space with civic square<\/li>\n<li>Colloco St John\u2019s Campus (\u00a3140m) \u2013 16-storey office building<\/li>\n<li>CIS Tower (\u00a3100m) \u2013 30 storey office refurbishment<\/li>\n<li>Alberton House (\u00a380m) \u2013 office and restaurant development over 18 storeys<\/li>\n<li>NXQ Building (\u00a329m) \u2013 on Lever Street<\/li>\n<li>Astley House and Byrom House (\u00a316m) \u2013 on Quay Street<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Three significant hotels in the pipeline:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hotel Picadilly (\u00a378m) \u2013 34-storey hotel with rooftop bar and sedum roof<\/li>\n<li>Cornbrook Hub Manchester Waters (\u00a375m) \u2013 24-storey including 88 apartments<\/li>\n<li>Great Ancoats Street (\u00a315.7m) \u2013 20-storey 154-bedroom hotel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The majority of the residential developments in planning are for flats and apartments including three developments of over 70 storeys:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/projects\/robert-de-niro-attends-nobu-manchester-groundbreaking-ceremony\/157066\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Viadux Phase 2<\/a> (\u00a3600m) \u2013 915 apartments in a 76-storey tower (a 2-year project starting in May 2026)<\/li>\n<li>Great Ancoats Street (\u00a3241m) \u2013 incoportates 758 apartments in a 75 storey tower (not due to start until April 2027 with delivery expected November 2030)<\/li>\n<li>The Lighthouse (\u00a3234m) \u2013 642 apartments in a 71 storey tower on Great Jackson Street (scheduled for completion in May 2029)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The report findings follow a wave of Good Growth investment<\/p>\n<p>Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham recently announced a swathe of investments from the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatermanchester-ca.gov.uk\/what-we-do\/economy\/greater-manchester-good-growth-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> GM Good Growth Fund<\/a>, as well as increased government investment bringing the fund\u2019s total to nearly \u00a32bn.<\/p>\n<p>The investments include \u00a3420m for new homes, infrastructure and industry, \u00a3314m of transport investment and \u00a385m for new housing schemes.<\/p>\n<p>The city also launched a bid to host the Ryder Cup in 2035, creating a new purpose-built golf course in Hulton Park, Bolton and \u00a369.8m
