{"id":838530,"date":"2026-03-20T13:55:18","date_gmt":"2026-03-20T13:55:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/838530\/"},"modified":"2026-03-20T13:55:18","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T13:55:18","slug":"wales-introduces-new-deal-to-drive-its-renewable-energy-potential","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/838530\/","title":{"rendered":"Wales introduces new deal to drive its renewable energy potential"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Welsh government has launched the Renewable Energy Sector Deal, a strategic partnership between the government and industry, focused on ensuring that Wales meets its renewable energy targets and unlocking the full economic potential of its renewable energy future.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/menter-768x576.jpg\" class=\"attachment-medium_large size-medium_large\" alt=\"\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Source: Menter M\u00f4n Morlais Ltd via LinkedIn<\/p>\n<p>Central to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.wales\/sites\/default\/files\/publications\/2026-03\/renewable-energy-sector-deal-for-wales.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Renewable Energy Sector Deal<\/a> is Wales\u2019 ambition to generate 70% of annual electricity consumption from renewable sources by 2030 and 100% by 2035, while also delivering at least 1.5\u202fGW of locally owned renewable energy capacity by 2035.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Sector Deal\u00a0aims to help deliver on these targets by accelerating renewable deployment across onshore and offshore wind, solar, marine and hydro, as well as to strengthen supply chains, high-quality jobs and enhanced opportunities for shared ownership and community benefit programs.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca Evans, the Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, launched the Sector Deal on a visit to the Morlais tidal energy project in Anglesey on March 18.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0launch of the Sector Deal\u00a0coincides with the publication of the latest\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.wales\/sites\/default\/files\/publications\/2026-03\/energy-generation-and-use-in-Wales-first-combined-edition.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Energy Generation and Energy Use in Wales report<\/a>, which shows renewable electricity generation in Wales in 2024 was equivalent to 54% of its electricity consumption.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur ambition is to become a world leader in renewable energy, creating jobs and green growth to make families in Wales more prosperous and to help with the cost of living,\u201d <strong>Evans<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe current conflict in the Middle East has further highlighted the importance of energy independence.
