People had to ‘dump’ their cars on road sides and even in the middle of traffic islands to make it to the huge Eid ul Fitr eventEid celebrations bring heavy traffic to Small Heath<\/p>\n

Up to 30,000 people made their way into Birmingham on Friday March 20 to celebrate Eid<\/a> in the city.<\/p>\n

In what is described as ‘one of the largest Eid gatherings in Europe’, Muslims came from all over the Midlands to mark the occasion at Small Heath<\/a> Park.<\/p>\n

Organised by Green Lane Masjid & Community Centre in Birmingham<\/a>, the huge Eid ul Fitr event<\/a> featured prayers, a fairground, food and fun.<\/p>\n

However, it has also brought a lot of heavy traffic<\/a> with some motorists ‘abandoning’ their cars in a bid to get there in time.<\/p>\n

These photos show cars ‘dumped’ on road sides and left in the middle of traffic islands.<\/p>\n

West Midlands Roads issued warnings of congestion in the area impacting A45 Coventry Road and Golden Hillock Road, and urged drivers to allow extra time and consider alternative routes where possible.<\/p>\n

There was also traffic and less-than-ideal parking on the roads near to the main entrances into the park, such Wordsworth Road, Waverley Road and Tennyson Road.<\/p>\n

Google Maps suggested that the fastest route from the city centre to Small Heath Park would be via Garrison Lane.<\/p>\n

However it said that the three mile journey would take much longer than normal.<\/p>\n

This video shows a bus getting stuck, trying to turn at a T-junction, due to lines of queuing traffic attempting to make it to the park for early morning prayers:<\/p>\n

Traffic down the A45 Small Heath Highway is much heavier than usual too, according to Google Maps.<\/p>\n

Drivers were also having to do U-turns to try to find alternative places to park.<\/p>\n
