But her life changed for the worst on an ordinary day on a regular trip. She picked up a suitcase that was heavier than she thought, and injured her back so badly it changed her life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">She couldn\u2019t work, and then she lost her job. Suddenly, the \u00a31,000 a month house with stairs and a traditional bathroom was not just too expensive but also not practical. Salvation came in the form of the council\u2019s housing waiting list HomeChoice, a new development and a new accessible bungalow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cI lost my job, and the house I was renting for \u00a31,000 a month no longer suited my needs. I was struggling with the stairs, the bathroom, and the cost,\u201d she said. \u201cI applied for a home through HomeChoice, and since moving in, I honestly feel like I\u2019ve won the lottery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThere are no stairs, I don\u2019t have to climb in and out of a bath anymore and everything is designed so well, it just works perfectly for me.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cAfter being told I could no longer drive, I wasn\u2019t sure what my future would look like. But having a stable, suitable home has changed that. This home means I feel much brighter about the future. I feel very comfortable and safe here,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">If the housing crisis affecting every level of Bristol\u2019s society is about one thing, it\u2019s about the lack of affordable housing &#8211; and Samantha\u2019s story is a classic example of why that\u2019s important. The MP Samantha was proudly showing around her new home wasn\u2019t a Bristol MP, but Sadik Al-Hassan, the first-ever <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/labour-party\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Labour<\/a> MP to represent Nailsea and the towns and villages between <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/portishead\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Portishead<\/a> and Dundry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Bristol Live has written extensively about the challenges of <a aria-label=\"getting new, truly affordable housing built in Bristol itselfLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/social-housing-plea-huge-fishponds-10548211\" rel=\"follow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">getting new, truly affordable housing built in Bristol itself<\/a>. The \u2018affordable\u2019 32 will be a mix of social rent, affordable rent and shared ownership.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cI am really pleased to see the delivery of new affordable homes moving forward,\u201d said local councillor for Banwell and Winscombe, Joe Tristram.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThese much-needed properties will give local families the opportunity to put down roots and build their futures within our community.
