<\/p>\nIncidents in Shetland, the Highlands and East Lothian all led to fatalities as Police Scotland appeals for information<\/p>\n

Three people have died within hours of each other after another horror weekend on Scotland’s roads. The victims include a 51-year-old cyclist, who was involved in a collision with a car in Shetland<\/a>.<\/p>\n A van driver died in the Highlands<\/a>, while a woman was killed in East Lothian on the main road between Edinburgh and the English border on Saturday. All three incidents happened on Saturday, March 22.<\/p>\n The male cyclist on Shetland died after an incident on the island of Tondra on the B9074 at around 10pm on Saturday night. A black Ford Ranger was also involved in the crash<\/a>.<\/p>\n The cyclist was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time after the incident. Sergeant Ewan Calder said: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died, and we\u2019ll continue to offer them support. Police said the one-vehicle crash took place at about 12.50pm between Laggan and Linlochlaggan in the Badenoch region.<\/p>\n The man, who was driving a Ford Transit van, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been made aware.<\/p>\n A cyclist died after a collision with a vehicle on this road in Shetland(Image: Google Maps)<\/p>\n Sergeant Kate Finlayson, of the road policing unit, said: “We continue to carry out inquiries to establish the full circumstances.” She added: “The road was closed for eight hours. I would like to thank members of the public for their patience while we carried out our investigation.”<\/p>\n Just a few hours earlier, just after 9am, a crash on the A1 near Torness Power Station left a woman dead and three others in hospital. Emergency services were called after a collision involving a Renault Austral and a Land Rover Defender.<\/p>\n The woman who died had been a front seat passenger of the Austral, while the male driver and rear passenger were taken to hospital for treatment. The woman\u2019s next of kin have been informed but police said formal identification is yet to take place.<\/p>\n The male driver of the Defender was also taken to hospital. Police Scotland urged anyone who witnessed the crash to get in touch.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, another cyclist was left in a critical condition in a crash on Friday, March 20. The 44-year-old man was riding an electric mountain bike on the A6106 Old Dalkeith Road in the town of Dalkeith when the incident happened.<\/p>\n The cyclist is believed to have collided with a white Transit Van, with emergency services rushing to the scene in <\/a>Midlothian at around 1.40pm on Friday, March 20. Medical staff describe his condition as critical.
