4<\/p>\n The cops were burned at the Helen Street Operational Support HQCredit: Alan MacGregor Ewing 4<\/p>\n They suffered serious chemical burns while washing their patrol carsCredit: Alamy 4<\/p>\n The incident is being probedCredit: Alan MacGregor Ewing<\/p>\n The incident happened at Police Scotland<\/a>‘s Operational Support HQ on Helen Street, Glasgow<\/a>, where the force\u2019s control room and elite units are based.<\/p>\n Officers were waiting to wash their vehicles on May 4 when another cop skipped ahead prompting one to spray him with an unmarked container holding what was believed to be water.<\/p>\n Sources claim the officers were throwing water at each other in a \u201cplayful\u201d manner before.<\/p>\n However, when cops<\/a> returned to work they reported a burning sensation and they were taken to hospital<\/a>.<\/p>\n One cop was left with injuries<\/a> so severe he needed a skin graft on his upper legs.<\/p>\n While another was left with minor burns.<\/p>\n A probe has now been launched amid claims the substance, used for cleaning alloy wheels, was being stored in an unmarked container \u2014 leaving the officers oblivious to danger<\/a>.<\/p>\n A source said: \u201cNo one knows how this could have happened but the traffic guys have been told off about bottles with dangerous<\/a> chemicals not being clearly marked.<\/p>\n \u201cOne of the guys was so badly burned he needed a skin graft.<\/p>\n \u201cThe bosses are looking into it but it has them really concerned. <\/p>\n Police Scotland launch inquiry into Knightswood death as forensics enter house<\/p>\n “Someone will be getting sacked over this.\u201d<\/p>\n Police Scotland\u2019s Professional Standards Department are currently probing the incident.<\/p>\n A force spokesperson said: \u201cOn Sunday, 4 May 2025, two male officers were injured after coming into contact with a chemical liquid whilst cleaning a police vehicle in Glasgow.<\/p>\n \u201dBoth officers were treated in hospital and released.
