A dangerous tree overhanging a road and pedestrian route at Arnos Vale Cemetery by almost 90 degrees will be felled, according to new plans recently submitted.<\/p>\n
Each week Bristol City Council<\/a> receives dozens of planning applications seeking permission for a whole range of developments.<\/p>\n Over the past seven days, those applications also included a huge new two-sided digital advertising screen and alterations to a McDonald\u2019s.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s this week\u2019s round-up of notable planning applications submitted to the council.<\/p>\n No dates have been set for when the planning applications below will be determined \u2013 apart from the cemetery tree which was decided as an urgent matter.<\/p>\n They can be viewed by going to the planning portal<\/a> on Bristol City Council\u2019s website.<\/p>\n Graveyard tree<\/strong><\/p>\n A sycamore tilting almost horizontally<\/a> over a pedestrian route and internal road at Arnos Vale Cemetery in Brislington<\/a> will be chopped down.<\/p>\n City council officers have approved an emergency five-day request to fell the dangerous tree.<\/p>\n In its application, Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust said: \u201cThe tree has bent to an almost 90 per cent angle and hangs above our internal road, busy with pedestrians, and pathway between graves.<\/p>\n The tree overhanging a path at Arnos Vale Cemetery (Image: Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust)<\/p>\n \u201cThe stem is currently placing some weight in the crown of another, smaller stem.<\/p>\n \u201cThis tree poses a great risk, as if it were to come down on its own, it would do so into the road and pedestrian area.<\/p>\n \u201cTwo further stems from the same tree are leaning in a different direction and could have similar consequences in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n The council\u2019s tree officers have granted permission and say a replacement tree is not required.<\/p>\n Huge advertising screens<\/strong><\/p>\n A large double-sided roadside digital advertising screen<\/a> would be installed at Malago Road Trade Park in Bedminster<\/a>.<\/p>\n The screens, measuring 3m x 6m and 2.5 metres above the ground, would operate from 6am until midnight daily, with changes in images as little as once every 10 seconds.<\/p>\n CGI of how the digital advertising screen would look at Malago Trade Park in Bristol(Image: The Thomas Partnership)<\/p>\n Planning consultants said: \u201cThe proposed display would not be viewed by any residential property.<\/p>\n \u201cThey would be viewed clearly but scaled and positioned so they tie in with the massing of the immediate environment and would not penetrate the skyline.\u201d<\/p>\n They said the screens\u2019 brightness would be within national guidance, adding that they would \u2018not be detrimental to visual amenity nor public safety\u2019.<\/p>\n![\"The](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/0_Mar26-Planning-Round-Up-Arnos-Vale-Cemetery-Tree-2.jpg\")
