Rev Ian Gilmour, who\u00a0came up with\u00a0the tree planting idea, said: \u201cDedicating a tree to someone whom\u00a0you\u2019ve\u00a0loved and lost can be a means of having a tangible reminder of their presence and a focal point for remembrance.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cramond Primary schoolchildren with the oak tree they planted four years ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Cramond Commemorates plantings\u00a0represent\u00a0a living heritage of people with a connection to the area or to Cramond Kirk.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAs well as enhancing the environment and the beauty of the area, these trees are symbols of renewal and a reassurance that life goes on.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The first tree, a sessile oak, was planted in November 2021 by pupils from Cramond Primary and\u00a0Cargilfield\u00a0Schools.\u202f Other varieties include beech, maple, silver birch,\u00a0rowan\u00a0and sycamore, as well as\u00a0a number of\u00a0fruit trees.\u00a0<\/p>\n
John Naylor chose a James Grieve apple tree in memory of his wife Margery who died in 2022. <\/p>\n
He\u00a0said:\u00a0\u00a0\u201cMargery was a lover of trees and of Cramond. She was secretary, then president, of the Cramond Association and a great supporter of the Woodland Group. What better way of celebrating and remembering\u202fher life well lived.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Christine Roy dedicated a Wheeler\u2019s Russet apple tree to her late husband, Jim. She said:\u00a0\u00a0\u201cJim loved his garden,\u00a0trees\u00a0and everything outdoors in nature. <\/p>\n
\u201cMy sons and I thought it would be a lovely way to remember him. Somewhere that\u00a0we and the grandchildren could\u00a0go and see\u00a0the tree grow over time in a woodland setting. We have planted bulbs around it, and had a little plaque made.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Lending itself to an obvious choice of memorial tree, the song O Rowan Tree was a favourite of Dorothy Spence\u2019s grandmother, a member of Cramond Kirk from 1882 till 1958, now buried in the kirkyard with her husband and two sons.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The event\u00a0was\u00a0attended by many of the tree donors and organisations involved in supporting the project: Cramond Association\u2019s Woodland Group, Cramond Estate, local poet David\u00a0Bleiman and Edinburgh Council\u2019s\u00a0Parks\u00a0and Greenspaces.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Many of the Cramond Community became involved in clearing and preparing ground for tree plantings.\u202f When new trees required watering in their early days, local schoolchildren, Cubs and Scouts saved the day by forming bucket chains to areas which\u00a0hose-pipes\u00a0could not reach.\u00a0<\/p>\n
