{"id":849496,"date":"2026-03-25T14:35:17","date_gmt":"2026-03-25T14:35:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/849496\/"},"modified":"2026-03-25T14:35:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T14:35:17","slug":"ihgs-european-growth-boosted-by-germany-expansion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/849496\/","title":{"rendered":"IHG\u2019s European growth boosted by Germany expansion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IHG Hotels &amp; Resorts has accelerated its growth in Europe with a particular focus on the German market as well as an increased level of \u201cconversion\u201d properties.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the UK-based hotel giant said that it has added 32,800 rooms in Europe over the past three years and reached the \u201cmilestone\u201d of having more than 150,000 rooms across the continent.<\/p>\n<p>IHG added 102 hotels in Europe to its portfolio in 2025, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesstravelnewseurope.com\/Accommodation\/IHG-acquires-European-urban-brand-Ruby-Hotels\" ek-link=\"true\" title=\"purchase of urban \u201clifestyle\u201d brand Ruby Hotels\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">purchase of urban \u201clifestyle\u201d brand Ruby Hotels<\/a>, as well as signing a further 117 forthcoming properties.<\/p>\n<p>The company said its European expansion had been driven by a \u201csupportive macro backdrop\u201d and the continent being the world\u2019s most visited region with a total of 793 million international visitors in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>IHG added that Germany was \u201ccentral to this growth story\u201d and now accounts for more than 20 per cent of the firm\u2019s current rooms in Europe, alongside 20 per cent of its development pipeline of new hotels (adding up to a total of 8,340 rooms) across the continent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMomentum in Germany amplifies brand awareness and drives demand and performance across IHG\u2019s wider European and global portfolio,\u201d said IHG.<\/p>\n<p>Germany is IHG\u2019s second largest market in Europe with 242 open and pipeline hotels, ranking only behind the UK and Ireland, which has just over 400 open and upcoming properties. They are followed by France (84 hotels) and Spain (81 properties).<\/p>\n<p>Karin Sheppard, IHG\u2019s SVP and managing director, Europe, also highlighted the importance of conversions of existing hotels to IHG brands for its European growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConversions are playing an increasingly significant role in our growth, accounting for 84 per cent of room openings and 61 per cent of room signings in Europe in 2025,\u201d said Sheppard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis highlights owners\u2019 appetite for a faster, lower risk route to market, allowing them to quickly tap into the strength of IHG\u2019s brands, distribution, loyalty and commercial engine.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>IHG\u2019s recent openings in Europe include Six Senses London, which debuted on 1 March, as well as the expansion of brands such as Kimpton, Vignette Collection, Garner and voco into new markets. The group\u2019s flagship InterContinental brand also plans to open a hotel in Prague in 2029.<\/p>\n<p>Extended stay brands, such as Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites, have also been adding European properties.
