\n\tParis-based sales company Lucky Number has announced sales to Italy and France on Italian director Francesco Sossai\u2019s debut feature\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cThe Last One for the Road<\/a>,\u201d\u00a0which\u00a0will world premiere in Un Certain Regard at Cannes.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe standout Cannes title, of which Variety has been given an exclusive clip (watch above), will be distributed by Lucky Red in Italy and New Story in France.<\/p>\n

\n\tCo-written by Sossai with Adriano Candiago, \u201cLast One for the Road\u201d follows two broke 50-somethings who have a \u201cnever skip the last drink\u201d philosophy, as the synopsis puts it, and intersect with a shy \u201cadrift in life\u201d architecture student named Giulio (Filippo Scotti). \u201cWhat starts as a chance encounter turns into a chaotic road trip through the Venetian plains \u2014 where bad advice, hangovers and unexpected friendship redraw Giulio\u2019s plans for life and love,\u201d the synopsis says.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film is produced by Marta Donzelli and Gregorio Paonessa for Vivo film with RAI Cinema (Italy), in co-production with Philipp Kreuzer for Maze Pictures (Germany) and Cecilia Trautvetter. It was made with the support of the Italian Ministry of Culture, Regione Veneto, the German Federal Film Board, Germany\u2019s Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and Eurimages programs.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI clearly remember watching Francesco\u2019s first film, \u2018Other Cannibals\u2019\u2014 a school project that was supposed to be a short, but ended up becoming a feature. I thought to myself: a new and unique director is born \u2014 we want to work with him,\u201d said Vivo Film co-chief Gregorio Paonessa in a statement.<\/p>\n

\n\tAdded Vivo Film\u2019s other chief Marta Donzelli: \u201cWe later met Francesco, who pitched us the first idea for \u2018The Last One for the Road.\u2019 We immediately connected and felt that he could convey the gloom and absurdity of life through an unconventional road movie \u2014 funny, at times wild and edgy, at others bitter and sharp, but never judgmental. I think we weren\u2019t wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n
