U.S. stock markets were broadly up: the <strong>S&amp;P 500<\/strong> advanced 0.7% to approximately 6,602; <strong>Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/strong> rose 316 points (+0.7%) to 46,440, the tech-heavy <strong>Nasdaq Composite<\/strong> gained 1.1% to reach roughly 22,001 while the small-cap stock benchmark, the <strong>Russell 2000,<\/strong> outperformed with a gain of over 1.5%.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust one headline has the potential to send oil prices and Treasury yields meaningfully higher or lower,\u201d analysts at Citi wrote on Wednesday.<br \/>The Dallas Fed survey adds another unpredictable element to hyper volatility in oil and gas prices. According to the bank\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasfed.org\/research\/surveys\/des\/2026\/2601\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">latest survey<\/a>, the business activity index turned positive (indicating expansion) in the first quarter of 2026 to the tune of 21.0, a sharp turnaround from -6.2 posted in the fourth quarter of 2025. The company outlook also improved, advancing to 32.2 in Q1 2026 from -15.2 in Q4 2025 suggesting improving outlooks in the Oil &amp; Gas sector.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oilprice.com\/Energy\/Energy-General\/3-Defense-Stocks-To-Replenish-Americas-Depleting-Arsenal.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong class=\"related\">Related: 3 Defense Stocks To Replenish America\u2019s Depleting Arsenal<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Roughnecks-Riches-Start-Up-American-Fracking\/dp\/B0FCDBHGSW\" class=\"charts_banner_clicked charts_banner_add_view\" data-banner_id=\"38\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"not_lightbox\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/book.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, Trump\u2019s peace plan, which reportedly places limits on Iran&#8217;s nuclear and missile programs and guarantees freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for sanctions relief, remains as unpredictable as oil prices.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Iranian state television broadcast a blunt rejection of the proposal, dismissing Washington\u2019s claims that talks were even underway. A senior military spokesperson said the U.S. was effectively \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/amp\/news\/liveblog\/2026\/3\/25\/iran-war-live-trump-again-says-talks-underway-12-killed-in-south-tehran\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">negotiating with itself,<\/a>\u201d adding, \u201cPeople like us can never get along with people like you\u2026 no one like us will make a deal with you. Not now.
