West Ham could potentially stop the 2029 World Athletics Championships from taking place at the London Stadium, prompting Great Britain track star Keely Hodgkinson to declare: “The GB team will bring back more medals to that stadium than West Ham have seen in their entire history” <\/p>\n

GB track stars Keely Hodgkinson and Dina Asher-Smith have made jovial criticisms of West Ham after it emerged the club could prevent the 2029 World Athletics Championships from taking place in London.<\/p>\n

The club reportedly don’t want to give up the use of the stadium for the required time period.<\/p>\n

Hodgkinson has won Olympic gold and silver medals in the 800 metres and recently won the World Indoor Championships.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the story on her X account, Hodgkinson wrote: “The GB team will bring back more medals to that stadium than West Ham have seen in their entire history.”<\/p>\n

Hodgkinson mocked West Ham as she called for World Athletics Championships to come to London <\/p>\n

Asher-Smith, a three-time Olympic medallist herself who won the 200 metres gold medal at the World Championships in 2019, also took to social media to urge West Ham to support the competition.<\/p>\n

“Literally at the Olympic Park today to kickstart something ahead of London 2028\/29,” she wrote.<\/p>\n

“West Ham please don’t play with us.”<\/p>\n

The London Stadium was built for the 2012 Olympics, and was the stage for iconic moments at those Games, before becoming the home of West Ham United Football Club.<\/p>\n
