We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"sc-1uza6dc-1 cglitp\">Your support makes all the difference.<\/strong>Read more<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> has extended by 10 days a pause on threatened strikes against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/iran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iran<\/a>\u2019s energy facilities, saying the move came at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/tehran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tehran<\/a>\u2019s request as talks to end the war were \u201cgoing very well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The US president had given Tehran a deadline of Friday to enter negotiations to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/trump-advisors-iran-war-timeline-b2946230.html\">end the war<\/a> or face the &#8220;total destruction&#8221; of its energy facilities.<\/p>\n<p>But in a post on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/truth-social\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Truth Social<\/a>, Mr Trump said the deadline would now be extended until 6 April, giving both sides more time to negotiate. &#8220;Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well,&#8221; Mr Trump posted.<\/p>\n<p>Tehran has denied any direct talks are happening.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Pentagon was considering sending another 10,000 troops to the Middle East. The potential deployment would probably include infantry and armored vehicles, according to the WSJ. that Tehran was ready to negotiate, confirming publicly for the first time that Washington had passed a 15-point &#8220;action list&#8221; to Tehran through Pakistani officials.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will see where things lead, and if we can convince Iran that this is the inflection point with no good alternatives for them, other than more death and destruction,&#8221;
