She’s the world No. 1 and a four-time Grand Slam champion, but has suffered plenty of heartbreaking defeats. In the last 14 months alone, Sabalenka has lost three Major finals, and it’s not unusual to see the 27-year-old venting at her box and trying to unleash her frustrations.

While Sabalenka once tried to control those moments on the court, the world No. 1 has since realised that it’s better to let it out and move on, and she’s now happy to show her frustrations on the biggest stages.

After reaching the semi-finals in Miami, Sabalenka explained: “I think this is something that, throughout the years, I learned about myself. I’m getting crazy after each lost point. I just let my emotions go out whenever I feel like it’s too much. It’s growing a lot, and I have to let it go, just so I can start from the beginning.

“But I’m still trying to be a better player [as a] person, and hold on to my emotions and control my emotions a little bit better. But sometimes I feel like, Okay, I have to let it go. And I just, with the experience, I learned, when is the moment okay? I let it go and start from the beginning.”

The top seed is relishing the opportunity to face one of her greatest rivals again and enjoys the contrast of her “emotional and loud” personality against Rybakina’s cool and collected demeanour. “I really enjoy it because we both push each other to the limit, and I feel like this kind of match makes me a better player, and this is where I actually grow,” Sabalenka said.

“We’re two opposites, and I think that’s so beautiful, because when people are watching us, we are both, like, really great players, like super high level players, and I feel like anyone can relate, and anyone can feel like, ‘Oh, I can make it’, because there is someone like me who is like, emotional and loud, and then there is someone like Elena.

“So whoever is watching us, they can relate. And they can feel like, ‘Okay, we can make it’, it doesn’t matter who you are as a person. You can make it there. So I love it.”

Aryna Sabalenka is known for showing her emotions on the court, good or bad.
