Prior to Google, he worked as a researcher scientist at Meta.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meta\u2019s FAIR, which has been around since 2013, has faced challenges in recent years, according to a report from <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/04\/10\/meta-ai-research-lab-fair-questions-departures-future-yann-lecun-new-beginning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Fortune<\/a>. FAIR led research on the company\u2019s early AI models, including Llama 1 and Llama 2. However, researchers have reportedly departed the unit en masse for other startups, companies, and even Meta\u2019s newer GenAI group, which led the development of Llama 4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meta\u2019s previous VP of AI Research, Joelle Pineau, announced in April <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/01\/metas-head-of-ai-research-plans-to-leave-the-company\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">she\u2019d be leaving the company<\/a> for a new opportunity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Meta has chosen Robert Fergus to lead its Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) lab, according to Bloomberg.
