A violent man has been jailed after he glassed a victim outside a pub in Birmingham<\/a> after he stepped in to try and stop an argument with a women.<\/p>\n

Another man then joined in the violent attack in Erdington<\/a> on July 2 last year.<\/p>\n

Officers were called to reports of disorder outside a pub on the High Street where a man had been injured by a glass bottle.<\/p>\n

An investigation was launched to find those responsible, and the team began a trawl of CCTV to establish exactly what had happened and who was involved.<\/p>\n

Thanks to their knowledge of the local community, they were able to identify Omar Clarke and Herbert Palmer on the footage.<\/p>\n

It showed the victim seemingly trying to calm down an argument between Clarke and a woman, after which Clarke then pushed the man, and hit him with a glass bottle.<\/p>\n

Palmer, who was nearby, then joined the attack.<\/p>\n

The pair were tracked down and were both arrested and have now been sentenced.<\/p>\n

At Birmingham Crown Court<\/a> on Thursday (26 March), Clarke was jailed for four years.<\/p>\n

Clarke, aged 35, of Beech Dean Grove, had previously pleaded guilty to section 18 grievous bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.<\/p>\n

Palmer, aged 59, of Parkhouse Drive, pleaded guilty to section 20 grievous bodily harm and was given a 16 month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.<\/p>\n

Det Con Amelia Rose, from West Midlands Police’s<\/a> Operation Fearless, said: \u201cClarke has rightly been sent to prison for what was a serious violent assault.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoth he and Palmer have been held accountable for their actions and the impact they\u2019ve had on the victim.\u201d<\/p>\n

Operation Fearless was launched in Erdington in 2025, tackling crimes including knife offences, burglary, theft, anti-social behaviour, and drug-related offences.<\/p>\n

And now patrols are being stepped up.<\/p>\n

Det Insp Tom Lyons explained: \u201cWe have been clear that while we expanded to other parts of the West Midlands, we would keep up the pressure on criminals in Erdington, as we are resolute in our aim of tackling issues that were reported to us when we launched.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose living and working in Erdington will notice our officers on patrol more frequently over the next few weeks, using their skills and specialist local knowledge to tackle offending head-on.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs ever, we are grateful to the Erdington community for their feedback and information, and we look forward to hearing from people as we continue our work.\u201d<\/p>\n
