Liverpool are reportedly \u2018squeezing hard\u2019 to secure the shock signing of James Garner from Merseyside rivals Everton as Real Madrid keep tabs on the England international.<\/p>\n

Garner has earned rave reviews through his performances under David Moyes this term and was rewarded for his consistent displays with a first call up for England and a first cap in the 1-1 draw with Uruguay on Friday.<\/p>\n

England boss Thomas Tuchel<\/a><\/strong> says he\u2019s been \u201cvery impressed\u201d by Garner both in training and on his debut.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very happy [with Garner] \u2014 he\u2019s our mini Valverde,\u201d Tuchel said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s getting there, and he played very, very good. I was quite sure that he will play good because he has this natural confidence and he\u2019s just very physical. He won a lot of balls.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think there are some situations where he can be a little bit more open in the body position and drive maybe a little bit more through midfield with a little bit more confidence,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think in the last 10 minutes of the first half, he was involved in some ball losses that cost us a bit of confidence.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut overall I was very impressed with the way he trained and the way he behaved. The way he played was good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Garner<\/a><\/strong> joined Everton from Manchester United for just \u00a39m in the summer of 2022 and has been one of the standout players in the Premier League this term.<\/p>\n

He signed a new long-term deal at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in January, but that\u2019s not stopping a couple of European giants tracking him ahead of the summer transfer window.<\/p>\n

Reports from Spain claim Real Madrid \u2018remain attentive to his evolution\u2019 but that Liverpool are \u2018most determined to launch for his signing\u2019.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s thought Liverpool will be in the market for a new midfielder this summer amid doubts of Alexis Mac Allister, who\u2019s suffered a dramatic downturn in his performances this season and has been linked with Real Madrid for some time, and Curtis Jones, who was linked with an exit in January and may again look to leave at the end of this season having grown frustrated with his limited game time at Anfield.<\/p>\n

The report claims Liverpool consider Garner the \u2018perfect\u2019 addition as they \u2018seek to reinforce the midfield with a dynamic and versatile profile\u2019 and that the Reds are willing \u2018to put \u20ac70m [\u00a361m] on the table to convince Everton\u2019.<\/p>\n

Liverpool are \u2018squeezing hard\u2019 while Real Madrid \u2018observe\u2019 and it\u2019s claimed Everton are \u2018aware that retaining the player will be complicated\u2019 if big offers come in.<\/p>\n

The report adds: \u2018Everything indicates that he will make the leap to a big one.
