{"id":863302,"date":"2026-03-31T20:24:17","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T20:24:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/863302\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T20:24:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T20:24:17","slug":"two-street-improvement-projects-in-bramley-and-wortley-edge-closer-to-reality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/863302\/","title":{"rendered":"Two street improvement projects in Bramley and Wortley edge closer to reality\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><strong>By John Baron<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A pilot scheme to tackle rat running and speeding traffic in two West Leeds neighbourhoods has this week moved a step closer to reality.<\/p>\n<p>Council highways officers are looking to<a href=\"https:\/\/westleedsdispatch.com\/scheme-to-tackle-rat-running-and-speeding-on-bramley-streets-moves-forward\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> introduce permanent road closures <\/a>to residential areas of Victoria Park in Bramley following a series of vehicle crashes and a campaign by local residents.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/leedsresidentialstreets.commonplace.is\/en-GB\/proposals\/v3\/wortley?step=step1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">second scheme in Lower Wortley<\/a> aims\u00a0to reduce vehicles rat-running between the A58 Whitehall Road and Lower Wortley Road\/Oldfield Lane.<\/p>\n<p>A council report said: \u201cIt is hoped the changes will mean a reduction in both car usage and air pollution, encouraging people to lead more active lifestyles by getting out and about on foot or by bike.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It said the schemes would lead to \u2018more people replacing some of their car journeys (notably short trips 2km or under) with walking, wheeling or cycling\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The report -m which is currently out for consultation \u2013 authorised the council to move forward with the schemes in Spring or early Summer, with the aim of completion by the Autumn. <\/p>\n<p>It also overruled four objections to the Victoria Park proposals from local residents and agreed to progress with the making of the traffic regulation orders, tendering the work and construction.<\/p>\n<p>WLD\u00a0has<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/westleedsdispatch.com\/accident-blackspot-could-become-a-low-traffic-neighbourhood-to-tackle-speeding-drivers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0previously reported<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0on traffic issues in the Victoria Park area.
