Worcester has been named one of Britain\u2019s top cities for small business job opportunities.<\/p>\n
The ranking, compiled by SME lender iwoca as part of its ‘Top 25 Towns & Cities for SME Jobs’ 2026 report, places Worcester third nationally.<\/p>\n
The city climbed 10 places from last year on the strength of its short commutes and job density.<\/p>\n
Seema Desai, chief operating officer at iwoca, said: “Worcester’s climb to third place in our rankings is a brilliant example of how regional cities can rival, and even outperform, major cities when it comes to jobs and small business opportunities.<\/p>\n
“With affordable housing, short commutes, and a growing local SME sector, Worcester deserves to be on every ambitious worker\u2019s radar.”<\/p>\n
Worcester residents enjoy an average commute of just 17 minutes and a job density of 1.02 per worker.<\/p>\n
The typical hourly wage is \u00a322.17, while the median house price stands at \u00a3261,000\u2014significantly lower than London\u2019s average of \u00a3490,000.<\/p>\n
Recent investment to support business growth includes Worcester City Council\u2019s Business Growth Grant scheme, which offers up to \u00a35,000 to help local firms expand.<\/p>\n
The scheme is part of the council\u2019s UK Shared Prosperity Fund allocation.<\/p>\n
The city is also benefiting from the Shrub Hill Quarter regeneration project, which will open later this year and create a new business district on former industrial land.<\/p>\n
Councillor Alan Amos, Worcestershire County Council\u2019s cabinet member with responsibility for business and skills, said: “Worcester\u2019s climb into the top three places in iwoca\u2019s \u2018Top 25 Towns and Cities for SME Jobs\u2019 highlights the strength of our business community and the positive economic momentum across the county.<\/p>\n
“This really is fantastic news and is a wonderful reflection of the work Worcestershire and its team of dedicated and experienced staff do every day.<\/p>\n
“We will continue to champion Worcestershire as an ambitious and enterprising location, working closely with partners to ensure businesses have the tools, talent, and support required to thrive.”<\/p>\n
Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford also featured in the top 25, ranking fourth and 18th respectively.<\/p>\n
