British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Wednesday said Britain would act in its national interest and would not change its position on the Iran war.<\/p>\n
Starmer made the statement in response to U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s remarks about Washington\u2019s possible withdrawal from the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).<\/p>\n
At a press conference at 10 Downing Street, Starmer said there had been \u201ca good deal of pressure\u201d on him to change his stance on joining the war, but that he would not do so.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhatever the pressure, whatever the noise, I am the British prime minister and I have to act in our national interests,\u201d he said. The prime minister added that he would not choose between Europe and the United States.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I do think that when it comes to defence and security, energy emissions and the economy, we need a stronger relationship with Europe,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, Trump said he is strongly considering pulling the United States out of NATO after the alliance failed to join the attacks on Iran, and called the alliance \u201ca paper tiger,\u201d according to The Telegraph reports.<\/p>\n
